Last month, we spotted an article that said AMD's upcoming R600 graphics processor would be sold in Radeon X2900 XTX graphics cards. The article quoted AMD officials, although mention of the name wasn't directly attributed. Now, DailyTech says it has come upon a good deal of information about the R600 and claims the cards will actually be dubbed Radeon HD 2900 XT. In fact, AMD's entire DirectX 10 lineup will bear the Radeon HD moniker. The site also reports the R600 will have 320 stream processors, a 512-bit memory bus, and support for 24X antialiasing. By contrast, Nvidia's G80 chip has 128 stream processors, a 384-bit memory bus, and it supports up to 16X coverage sampled AA.
Those specs—if they are indeed genuine—may not necessarily give the so-called Radeon HD 2900 XT a huge edge over the GeForce 8800 GTX. According to the guys over at VR-Zone, AMD's upcoming top of the line scores around 12,000 points in 3DMark06 when paired with a Core 2 Extreme QX6700. That's "only slightly better" than the GeForce 8800 GTX, VR-Zone adds.
