Blizzard to announce StarCraft II next month
The folks at Kotaku have received word from Blizzard that the famed game maker will reveal a new title at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitation in Seoul, South Korea on May 19. Kotaku says word has been getting around that the event will see the launch of a sequel to the popular real-time strategy game StarCraft, and a statement sent by Blizzard to the site certainly doesn't rule out that possibility. Here's what the firm had to say:
We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present. As Kotaku suggests, the statement more or less confirms Blizzard's plans to introduce the StarCraft sequel next month. The game will reportedly feature 3D graphics, a new race, and perhaps changes to the existing races—Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. According to Shacknews, Blizzard will release a set of videos and images when the new game is announced on May 19.
