Hynix announces 512Mbit GDDR4 SDRAM
Hynix has announced the availability of 512Mbit GDDR4 SDRAM chips running at 2.9Gbps. The chips are capable of processing data at a rate of 11.6GB/s, and Hynix expects to start mass production early next year. Hynix is actually the second manufacturer to announce GDDR4 modules; Samsung began sampling the industry's first GDDR4 modules back in October. However, those Samsung chips run at a slightly slower 2.5Gbps, and are only available in 256Mbit densities. Thanks to PC Watch for the tip.
