Skulltrail overclocking results are in

When I posted my Skulltrail review, I didn’t have time to include overclocking results, so I promised to add those later.  Those results are finally in the review, if you’d like to have a look.  I’ve only overclocked the Core 2 Extreme QX9775 processors that are part of the Skulltrail package so far, but the results are impressive, especially for air cooling.  I’ll see what I can wring out of some cheaper Xeons a little later.

    8 Cores at 4Ghz……….nice.

Any idea why it is slower then the 9650 @ 3.6Ghz in TF2?

8FPS slower with CPUs that are faster looks strange.

    Otherwise, thanks for the update.

The difference is probably memory latency. Also, more cores plus bad scheduling may create issues in apps like TF2 that only use one to two threads.

I started to blame the memory myself, but I think it is just my bias against FB DIMMS.

I would tend to lean towards the “bad scheduling.”

Like someone merging on to a 20 Lane Superhighway, slowing down while trying to decide which lane they want. 🙂
