Unfunny joke about a dying man. Stay classy, TR.

This post is in need of a whole lotta “lighten up Francis”. I think even Steve would get a laugh at the idea that even though his time may soon be coming we still think he’s got a bit of that rebel spirit in him.

Bah. The comic reminds us of how he’s trounced his competitors. The title draws on memories of (what some would say is) a legendary past. The youthful mischief (defacing HP’s advert) and wry smile are nice touches too. It is on all accounts a fond remembrance.

      Miss the point much?

      • maxxcool

no no no, the stock holder meeting stated he was not dying…

        • Starfalcon

Of course they are going to say he is not dying. If they said he was dying, apple worshipers would have a worldwide freakout, not to mention their stock would take a massive dive. The pic they took of him at the golf tournament, he looked skeletal and needed someone to hold him up. Its likely just a matter of time….

Of course maxxcool knows he’s dying. The whole damn world can see his health is getting worse.
Stock holders would say Steve burns american flags for fun if they stood to make a buck from it.

It irks me that people can’t spend a teeny tiny bit of thought on the meaning of people’s posts before replying. You get someone making subtle sarcasm or dry humour and then a string of clueless replies appears from people contradicting the OP because they don’t understand that the OP was using dry wit, innuendo, sarcasm, irony etc.

I like this drawing style. Reminds me a great deal of a very funny HBO cartoon, The Life and Times of Tim

This comic is wasted on a mere mortal such as myself. WAAAAY over my head. Though I do think “ouchpad” is funny. Just don’t understand the rest.

The “pirate” in the title is a reference, IIRC, to Pirates of Silicon Valley. Also Jobs started out idolizing hp and eventually came to really dislike them.

        • indeego

HP used to be a top notch engineering company, and deserved every ounce of admiration. Notsomuch these days.

      • anubis44

Yes, the pirate reference in the title refers to Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as the ‘pirates of silicon valley’. However, Jobs spray-painting/vandalizing and enjoying a sybolic act of revenge in the last panel is more akin to the pirates of old, who were not only thieves but also wonton vandals and aggressors.

Jesus, it’s not that complicated. You just have to know something about both the ‘pirates of silicon valley’ film and about the original pirates of old.

        • Corrado

The problem is he changed the title from ‘iToldYouSo’ which made no sense.

          • cygnus1

Yup, saw it hours ago with the other title and was like ok, wtf? But with the pirate title it’s a little better

    Nice joke.

I whish Steve all the best.
No, really, I mean that, though I would never buy an Apple. But that’s besides the point.
He is one of those people who did wonderfull things for computers, and not by leaning back on their lazy buttucks.

now he has much more time to spoil and laugh at other companies. I admit you did good Steve, I never felt an appetite to Apple hardware, but now, I just want an iPad.

I usually adore your comics but this one? ..I’m really not getting it.

Seeing Steve and “Pirates” I instantly think of the old movie… but… vandalizing HP stuff. ????? PROFIT?

The next podcast has some clarifying to do πŸ˜‰

    • neon

I think it is supposed to mean that Jobs resigns from Apple so that he can purchase HP’s hardware portfolio, which he then proceeds to sabotage, for the purpose of driving Apple’s competition into the ground.

    • d0g_p00p

I don’t get it, someone clue me in. Also yes I read the book from the link posted. Steve Jobs resigns and vandalizes a store display to have the Touchpad called the Ouchpad? IF this is nerd humor I must not be a nerds because it makes no sense to me.

I have an iPad and a Touchpad. Both have their pluses and minuses but over all the iPad is better by quite a bit.

      • NeelyCam

      TouchPad is/was 1/5th the price

        • indeego

A touchpad breaks, you are SOL. An iPad breaks you get a new one with a smile and an apology.

        • Hance

Really I would have never guess seeing as how I bought both of them. Shall we just say you get what you pay for and call it good πŸ˜‰

those kinds of jokes are called “geek jokes.”

xkcd runs on that kind of humour.

Can you just give me the gist?

            • Palek

Bill Gates and Steve Jobs (and their allies) revolutionized/hijacked the computing industry – I think that is what the term “pirate” refers to in the film, which is a story of the rise of Apple and Microsoft.

        • swampfox

Do you mean it isn’t a joke if you don’t understand it?

      • thanatos355

I get the humor, I just don’t get how the last panel is “piracy”.

Now if it showed him downloading a bootleg copy of Win7. πŸ˜€
