Re: Who is left

I definitely haven't been around recently - had to websearch for the forum address! - and am only coming up on 18 years since I finally stopped lurking and started commenting. I spent a huge chunk of my formative years here, but like many have since gotten married and had kids. Lots of good memories...

Interesting times! Good luck to the Buccaneers; they've already made history, can they double down and get the win?

It's still basically 2020, so that must be a foregone conclusion...

Re: Colorado River Water

As an engineer, I usually consider squandering three quarters of your total project investment to pay lawyers instead of actually using that money to build something to be inefficient. Well, I'll bite: as an engineer, can you provide an example of a time where you didn't consider squandering three ...

Well, that seems like a waste of time - why bother starting on it if the second coming happens the following day?

Perhaps there are two camps in that respect - the "Jesus, take the wheel!" mob and the "shove off, Sir Isaac, I'll have that wheel back right now (you old coot!)" group.

FWIW, CDPR didn't REALLY take off until W3, which also coincidentally was their first (major) foray into the consoles. Even Witcher 2 was kind of a mess (at release) on PC. And by mess I don't mean FULL OF BUGZ zomg but just really awkward. The control scheme was very strange. It took me a while to...

Re: ASUS BIOS Q-Fan Tuning

I'm not sure how the 8700k behaves, but my 6700k would regularly suddenly spike 20-25 degrees C on any given core during instantaneous load, and just as quickly drop back, as reported by Speedfan and OpenHWMon. I understand that this is one of the reasons people use to justify delidding - for many, ...

Re: The promise and failure of home automation...

It almost sounds like you could use a dongle that sniffs HDMI-CEC [for Play/Pause/Stop] and interfaces with the local Tuya stack. I doubt there's something off-the-shelf for that, though. [Edit] I guess that even that's probably more high technology than it needs to be - if you're using an IR remote...

Re: Poissibly Windows 10's most intuitive feature?

Apologies, my hit and run comment wasn't clear: We've got some machine running Office 2010 and 2013 at my workplace, and some running Office 365. On O'10, when Excel has focus, passive scroll doesn't work in any other window. I'll have to confirm later, but I think the converse does work - with ...

What would the "required legwork" even be? What on earth are you talking about? There is no way a company like Intel makes such major changes to their Ts&Cs without serious vetting by the processes of the legal team... That clause likely went right to the head of legal and even into t...

Re: "Foreshadow" speculative execution attacks outlined

I may be misunderstanding him (Amiga500+, feel free to contradict me) but I think his contention is that: - this clause doesn't appear to have been in any previous UELA covering Meltdown, etc - Intel will have done all the required legwork to implement the change in UELA for this release - Intel hav...
