Re: Which cpu to get?

Going from a i5 4670K (4C/4T) to an i7 4790K (4C/8T) noticeably improved minimum framerates in Overwatch for me. I was running capped at 140 fps on a 1080Ti and would get dips to 100-110 semi-frequently on the i5. The i7 on the other hand was rock-solid at the 140 fps cap and almost never dipped bel...

Re: Ideal Nvidia card to drive a 1440p 60Hz display?

Depends how much you want to spend. I'd go GTX 1070, personally. (snip) Edit: if you can stretch to it, and will be able to play sniping online retailers (as I had to with my RX Vega 56 !), the GTX 1070 Ti is apparently going to be launched at $430 in 12 days time. It's GP104, cut-down less than GT...

Not to defend the horrid Android OS updating mechanism, but nobody beside us nerd types really care about updates or security. There isn't any serious security breaches in Android AFAIK either despite all the attention drawn to the vulnerabilities and the huge numbers of devices out there. That sai...

Nokia N70 (TI OMAP 1710)
Nokia N8 (ARM11)
Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (Snapdragon 801)
OnePlus 5 (Snapdragon 835)

My upgrade cycle is 3-5 years, I usually use them until they fall apart (sony) or get lost (nokia). I mean, the nokias are indestructible, how else am I going to need to replace them?

How good really are Fuji's lenses, compared to Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.? Of course, used in an APS-C mirrorless context. Doesn't look to me there are lots of 3rd party options for the Fuji system, hence my question. They are excellent. Speaking from eyeballs perspective. Super sharp, contrasty, col...

Probably the best thing i can do is describe the expected use. I've been thinking it might be fun to make some videos about trucker life, sort of an amateur documentary about some of it. Got mine last Thu and cracked it open, it is indeed a WD Red 8 TB drive. I've seen some speculation that these drives are rebadged HGST 8 TBs, but comparing to my HG...

It's difficult to call anything at the high end a great value these days, but yeah it does help to tip the scales. If this is at all predictive for Vega RX, then I guess I'll continue saving rewards points on the CC for a 1080Ti upgrade at some point. Of course I don't really need a 1080Ti, but my ...

They might be buying the 1070 in order to avoid GDDR5X. I've heard that with GDDR5's lower latency it can sometimes work out better for mining. Still seems like a silly idea to me though. Comparing the same GPU with two different types of memory is one thing, but I would think the 1080 would be fas...
