Re: The Nintendo Switch is pretty great

Is the Switch pro controller the same as the Wii U one? We have one for the Wii U and it's really nice. Not sure - it's this one. https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Pro-Controller/dp/B01NAWKYZ0 Part of the cost, which I maintain is reasonable, is that the motion controls are built into it. It f...

Nintendo has just never gotten online multiplayer right. Dear god, the monstrosity of voice chat on the Switch. http://kotaku.com/the-switchs-phone-enabled-voice-chat-is-as-ridiculous-a-1797058470 . Hollow Knight , metroidvania with a lovely artstyle set in a half-creepy/half-adorable bug-like world. From all reports, the game is quite vast for a metroidvania (several ppl have mentioned play times in the 35+ hr range for complete runs). Still in the early stages of the game, have only unlocked...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

About the whole "It's just Fiji drivers" argument, my question is: If this really is a new architecture then why/how could it even run these programs at all simply using the old driver from a different architecture in the first place? Wouldn't we be talking about a failure to even run pro...

This came out today: http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2977-vega-fe-vs-fury-x-at-same-clocks-ipc I'm fairly confident that either the Fiji driver theory is correct or it's a die shrink of Fiji. Actually, reading the article, I'm doubting either theory. Gamersnexus (with the disclaimer that we shoul...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

AMD hasn't even had a high end card since the 290 have they? I mean the 390 was basically a 290 so... Even if it doesn't compete 1:1 on performance, if it can compete on price or features (freesync etc) that's something. I don't know what to make of it all yet but from what I can tell AMD post Ryze...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

It's difficult to call anything at the high end a great value these days, but yeah it does help to tip the scales. If this is at all predictive for Vega RX, then I guess I'll continue saving rewards points on the CC for a 1080Ti upgrade at some point. Of course I don't really need a 1080Ti, but my ...

Re: How about an Rx 480... for $640

They might be buying the 1070 in order to avoid GDDR5X. I've heard that with GDDR5's lower latency it can sometimes work out better for mining. Still seems like a silly idea to me though. Comparing the same GPU with two different types of memory is one thing, but I would think the 1080 would be fas...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

The PCPer results tonight were pretty bad. On average, it was closer to 1070 than 1080, while pulling about 280 watts. They're gonna have to price these pretty damn cheap to keep it from bombing even worse than Fiji. wccftech has a link to the stream here, and some preliminary results. http://wccft...

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

What about the fact that the tester was using drivers from January (17.1.1 - which are obviously not optimized for vega)? I think I'll wait until some more tests surface before making any inferences on how Vega stacks up. He's updated to 17.20.1035 as of a day ago. It seems as though the latest sco...

Why does anyone give a **** about Fire Strike when Time Spy is about? I'd think FS is not really representative of what current cards can do. Could that have something to do with the tester using a barely adequate PSU (550W)?

The klaudius guy said he was able to get sustained 1600 MHz with the right Wattman settings, so it's not the PSU.

Re: Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

AMD keeping even with NVIDIA on power/performance is really a win for us. If both companies are at parity they'll have to compete on price in the short term, and find a way to increase generational price/performance in the longer term. I would agree with you if AMD were even close to Nvidia on effi...

This seems to be in line with TR's prediction of Vega's performance (that it would be around GTX 1080 levels). Having said that, 3DMark Firestrike scores in general seem to be all over the place. I never see a 1080 get the same score in 2 different reviews, and I've seen scores vary wildly from 19k ...

To maximize production/day, you set power target below 100%. That's pretty counter-intuitive. How is that even possible? Does it prevent thermal throttling? At this point, I'm probably always going to buy AMD GPUs on the off chance they more than double in price 6 months later. That's happened twice in two years with AMD, probably never with Nvidia. First 4 1070 prices on amazon this morning - $799, $730, $540, $650. 1070 out-hashing 580 w lower power ...

Last week, Newegg on Ebay had a 1080 Ti (Gigabyte non FE edition with 3 fans) for the same price. Is a 4GB Rx 480 really more efficient for mining than a 1080 Ti? It was even cheaper. $634.99 w free shipping. Picked one up last week and it's been going like a champ. Boosting to 1898 MHz and stabili...
