Re: Suggestions for a micro ATX case

Another vote for the 350D. I just built an identical system to yours, save for the PSU about 3 weeks ago. I am in love with this case. Not too big, not too small. The PSU air filter has stopped a jaw-dropping amount of dust from entering my case. And the mesh grilles are super easy to remove for cle...

Re: Looking for AM3 HSF

Yep, got it in fine! :)

Though I will have to replace the 120mm fan that came w/ the HSF, it's noisy as all hell. Loudest fan in my rig (including my OC'd 4890, which is saying something).

Re: Graphics card failing?

Just to point out (and if I'm missing something here, I apologize in advance) but in that screenshot http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/6194/ramtest.jpg it appears you only checked 3.25 MB of ram not GB. This would explain the fact that you checked the ram apparently 2 million times.

Just noticed that.

Ironically, my girlfriend just bought me a T-shirt right before going to the computer store.

Looking for AM3 HSF

Hey guys. To make a long story short I made a pretty solid impulse buy (new CPU/RAM/Mobo). My Girlfriend's sister needed a new rig as her old P4 was dieing and I was looking to upgrade to a 4 core system anyways, so everybody ended up happy. Now I am looking to replace the stock HSF because the CPU ...

Re: AMD X2 6400, is it a Black Edition?

Using a CCF to cool an E8400 @ 4.0gHz in the middle of the summer = )

My one gripe is the 120mm fan it comes with gets a bit noisey. Although I'm not sure if thats the fan itself or the "bracket" thing it uses to attach to the HSF. Could possibly try rubber bands?

Re: Can't find 1GHz 4890. What gives?

Cherry pickings and high demand = difficult to obtain. Just settle for any 4890 and it will OC to 1Ghz without any fancy volt-mods. You could go green and get a 275. ;) no it wont. the average 4890 has trouble hitting more than 930-940 without volt mods. Really? I grabbed mine the day it came out (...

Very, very interesting read. I can see this heading into R&P Territory, but I really feel this is something that people should read (and thus not be relegated to a subscribed forum).

Super Budget Build

My best friend recently got a new job editing childrens books for a small publisher over the web and needs and upgrade. Up until now she has been using an old Mac G3, and getting along fine with it, so obviously her needs are very very minimal. Budget is about $400-450 CDN. This is what I've come up...

I believe a program like CCleaner (google it) will clean up any unused / unassociated registry keys in its Registry edit mode. You can even back up your registry if you do manage to hose something.

Re: My computer is poppin!

NTFS is much more robust than FAT/FAT32 when it comes to unexpected shutdowns. Just run the Windows disk integrity check tool; if it doesn't find anything it can't fix, you're probably fine. The only files likely to have been corrupted are files which were being written to just before the power was...

Today, I decided that waiting forever for an RMA Replacement was not going to work out, so I went down to a local computer shop and picked up a new one (same model). I had a computer failure moments ago and could use a few troubleshooting tips. Hey, Uncle Sam has been exceptionally generous this year (hooray being a student!) and I have a bit of spare cash to play around with. I would actually run the overclocking tests first before moving real data in. I actually reinstall Windows after finding the correct OC settings. Who knows if one of the failed attempts may have corrupted your install? ;) ^ This. Had to reinstall 2 or 3 times during my first O.C. because pushing th...

There's nothing wrong with ultra-low temperatures, as long as you don't expect the device to actually function at the time. Haha fair enough. To be honest it was more of how well the display would hold out. From what little I remember of that night I got out of a jeep not even close to her front la...

Whipped up something real quick for you. I noticed the case only has 1x80mm fan so heat may be a bit of a concern, so although there may be slightly cheaper models of the parts listed the idea behind them is to get the to run as cool as possible.
