Re: Google took a picture of my face

If you've ever linked your Google account to other social media accounts that have your picture it's possible they got it that way. The only thing I can think of was that I told Google what my Hotmail email address is for Gmail password recovery purposes. Then Google tapped into the MSN messenger n...

Google took a picture of my face

I just signed into youtube to try and post a comment and to my surprise a picture of my face came up. This is creepy. How the heck did google get my picture? I have a gmail account but I never uploaded my photo or used google+. The picture is a few years old. I think I used it with MSN, probably no ...

Re: folding@home v7.1.52 setup check

yeah, it is rolled into FAHControl.exe  Very easy to use. Push button to pause, push button to start(independent control of all CPU and GPU clients) . But I have to start FAHClient.exe first and then run FAHControl.exe for it to work (looks like it 'connects' to it). So the old way in t...

Re: folding@home v7.1.52 setup check

I never needed it before with the v6 console client. There is a myriad of tabs, boxes, controls and settings... just to change a handful of settings that can be configured by editing the config xml file? Unless I am missing something, I don't see the value in it. Do you really need the space that ba...

folding@home v7.1.52 setup check

I'm tring to switch to v7 of the client. It's pretty tricky to set up. More so than v6. This is what I've come up with for my config.xml... <config> <!-- User Information --> <passkey v='----'/> <team v='2630'/> <user v='Duck'/> <!-- Folding Slots --> <slot id='0' type='SMP'> <checkpoint v='15'/> <c...

Re: A favor to ask of windows 7 users

All of the components in the operating system are found in the WinSxS folder – in fact we call this location the component store. Each component has a unique name that includes the version, language, and processor architecture that it was built for. The WinSxS folder is the only location that the c...

Re: A favor to ask of windows 7 users

Shouldn't the one pointed to by the link in C:\Windows always be the current one? The link? C:\Windows\explorer.exe should be the current one but not always. Changing start orbs requires patching explorer.exe. Maybe someone restored an out of date backup for example. Or even if C:\Windows\explorer....

Re: A favor to ask of windows 7 users

Just out of curiosity, what's the purpose of this experiment? To figure out how many different versions of Windows Explorer for Win7 have been released over time? Main reason is to see what the 32 bit flavor looks like as I use 64 bit. Going to see if I can write a script that can automatically res...

I just wanted to update this with some pure dos type ways of doing it. They are reasonably accurate and the free space batch file is not the typical way of doing it. (usually it is done with "DIR | FIND free space" type command). Prints out free space on C: or any other drive if you edit i...

Re: Vertical Stripes

I have found a fix for the problem I think. My 5750 runs at 700/1150 MHz for core and memory respectively. I tried underclocking the memory to 1000 MHz which seemed to work at first but I did get one black screen lockup during a game so I am now running at 600/1000 MHz. I edited the CCC .xml profile...

Re: Batch file - find free space and file size

Ok, thanks. I assumed there was just a good way to do it that I couldn't work out what it was.

I will stick with batch files and just be inaccurate. I should be able to make sure that there is more than enough space which should be good enough for this.

Re: Batch file - find free space and file size

I found a VBS script to check file sizes but came up with the same problem if you try and use numbers bigger than 2GB. It is no assignment. It's just this batch program I wrote to transcode video automatically. I just need to do a disk space check at the beginning otherwise it will break down when t...

Batch file - find free space and file size

Hi, I am basically just trying to make a batch file that finds out... Is a file smaller than the free space available? If yes then continue. But files and disk space and be many GB so the usual batch file commands don't work because more than 2GB and you go out of range. I don't really write any cod...

Re: Vertical Stripes

That's by design, in order to save power. Unless you are referring to something else? Yeah that's right. But it's not supposed to do that in the middle of a game. CS:S runs fine at 60FPS for several minutes maybe before the clocks go down and so do the FPS to around 40ish which is a very noticeable...

Re: Vertical Stripes

@JustAnEngineer There is no graphical corruption, it is a complete lock up. A vertical stripe screen of death - VSSOD. There is plenty of evidence that proves it is not an overheating issue. Plus I seem to have fixed mine by installing a different driver version. It could be linked to and caused by ...

Re: Vertical Stripes

They are fine, I have installed ramsinks and they are very hot to the touch while being cool enough to keep my finger on them. So that means they are around 50*C. There is so much spare headroom that it is a complete non-issue. Plus it worked for months without a single crash which proves its fine. ...

Re: Vertical Stripes

What a surprise. I get stripes too with my XFX 5750. It worked for months before I started getting it a lot. It's not overheating. I installed fanless heatsink and GPU is always 40-62*C range depending on idle or load. It only crashes during a game. Never in Windows. I ran 10.2 drives for ages when ...

Re: ATI powerplay bug tracked down to MS MPEG-2 decoder

Nah it's not very good. Have to manually adjust aspect ratios. FFDShow would be the next best choice I guess.

I am sure I didn't touch any options at all, but now it is working ok. Main difference now I notice is that DXVA is no longer working. ATI powerplay bug tracked down to MS MPEG-2 decoder

I got a new 5750. It's been a great card but the drivers have been pretty poor, requiring a reinstall of windows a couple of times. I have now got Windows 7 64 bit installed cleanly with latest 10.3 drivers which installed without any problems. Anyway, main problem that won't go away is the graphics...

TR to do X-Fi review?

Does anyone know if and when TR is going to do a review of the X-Fi soundcard? TR's soundcard reviews are the best, and i'm waiting to see what they think of it before i make up my mind.
