Re: The login page needs to force SSL

Or if you use Rackspace Cloud you can terminate SSL at the load balancer and all the app servers can run nginx without SSL.

EDIT Just saw this: https://www.linode.com/nodebalancers

They have them too!

Just look at all the cases of ISPs inserting javascript in random pages just to add ads.

Re: The login page needs to force SSL

I got there through a re-registration email after I changed my email. In face just try to access the forum login page without SSL and it works. We should definitely always redirect that page to SSL. Also on the main site there is a little login snippet that let's you enter login details on a non-htt...

The login page for the forum does not force SSL which is insecure.

Re: Virtualization and Ivy Bridge

Generally speaking for VM software that requires any hardware support at all you only need what Intel calls VT-x, you do not also need VT-d. The -K processors don't support the latter, but that doesn't matter for the most part (there are cases that require VT-d of course but not for basic VM suppor...

I'm surprised you've been using the OS for weeks and you haven't figured out that when you mouse over the top bar the menu appears. I've been using this OS only for web browsing via Firefox, and it's going to be replaced with Mint today. For productivity work I just can't stand it, I had troubles w...

Re: Ivy Bridge for T520?

I would say that 8GB is just fine and should be plenty for any/all uses. I recently helped a graphic designer friend purchase a new laptop, and he only utilizes 4GB in photoshop editing the biggest picture with the most layers he has. He only had photoshop open though, if you're one of those people...

Welcome... I just talked with a Newegg rep, and they said to refuse delivery of the one I ordered last week (thank goodness for the long weekend), and I can order the new one.. saved $35.. not bad.. Just pulled the trigger on that + 16 GB Lappy RAM for 85. Hopefully those ruby tests will run faster...

You should try Gnome 3. Am I missing sarcasm? Using multiple applications with GNOME 3 is even more annoying than in Unity. I've given up on GNOME 3, it's fundamentally broken in its default configuration. I've given Unity, KDE, Xfce, Cinnamon, and GNOME 3 screen time, GNOME 3 is easily my least fa...

The 'must have programs' pages being seriously rusty, I wonder what you find optimal in AV programs. I run ESET (which I am happy with) and Avast on another box (don't like the interface and sluggish updates). Also - I've forgotten the name of the site that runs quality non-commercial tests of thes...

In what way is MySQL broken? That seems like a pretty major show-stopper, especially for a LTS release. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-dfsg-5.1/+bug/573318?comments=all Same problem listed there. None of the solutions worked. Will wait a year or so and check again, or until 11.10 b...

Re: Ivy Bridge for T520?

I'm pretty sure you can't have more than 2 sticks in the T-series. I have a T420s and there is no way to make it 4-slot. Oh I was thinking of putting a W520 mb in it if it would fit. The other question is whether 16gb RAM is worth it. Seems like overkill since I only run 1 vm and don't really use p...

Re: Ubuntu 12.04LTS released

Have been using an Ubuntu 11.10 VM (32 bit) for a while for ruby coding. Tried out 12.04 in a new VM and MYSQL is broken. That's a no go for me. Until they get that fixed it's a no go. The rest of it seemed fine, didn't seem to change that much. Most of my time is in the terminal though and that has...

Ivy Bridge for T520?

If I upgrade my Sandy Bridge i3-2300 Lenovo T520 to 16GB RAM (2 sticks) and then later upgrade to an Ivy Bridge i7 Quad Core, will only having 2 sticks of RAM affect performance? Should I also upgrade the MB to support 4 sticks like the W520?

Thank you guys. Actually, a coworker offered to give me an old Cisco Access Point, but since it has no router, I turned him down. Thank you for the mentions of the relatively new N routers that can run the custom firmware. Custom firmware would be nice to have, as long as the router itself is reliab...

Best Router around $50

Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a new router for my apartment, and I have heard that the WRT routers from Linksys are good. Where should I buy one of those (assuming I can't find one on craigslist), and do they support 802.11n?

Sincerely,

What does buying a Mac have to do with politics? It may become religious if you consider Jobs the devil, so it could easily become political from that point of view, but unless you want to take that leap, this claim is unwarranted. :o

I'm sorely tempted to say "vi" just to be a smartass. How complicated of a site are you looking to make? That'll probably influence some people's recommendations. I remember reading a comment like that on slashdot once, to which someone replied, "He might as well just forget structur...
