Re: Who is left

Yup, I occasionally stop by to see what's happening here. After Scott and Geoff left the website lost all steam. There isn't money to be made in tech websites anymore unless they diversify heavily. Everything went to YT, which is where I generally watch reviews and leave comments. Gamers Nexus and H...

I agree, sometimes it's a good idea to cut your loses, I don't think this appeals to anyone. It's like they tried to copy Anand and then gave up halfway through the redesign.

Re: AMD Navi / RDNA Topic

Anyone find any reviews that actually test input delay and anti-lag? It appears to be the elephant in the room only people who shop around for monitors talk about.

Seems the 5700XT has some very favorable results at 1080p, which might make it great for competitive gaming (or really anyone on 1080p).

Re: Something's different... (new)

Yikes... New design is the most unappealing thing I've ever seen. Putting aside the lack of a blue theme, it's just a giant scrolling hugely spaced out splattering with almost no definition. Looooots of deadspace. Lack of pull down box for looking through the reviews also sucks. Just waiting for bit...

Re: AMD Input Delay Reduction Technology - Anti-Lag

I was mainly pointing out the video had Scott Wasson in it explaining the technology. 30% for first gen, initial implementation and focus is a pretty meaty deal. Anti-lag is quite possibly the worst branding they could've used for it, it tells you absolutely nothing about what it's doing, which is r...

Yes, mouse presses, not mouse movement (aiming) as far as I can tell or I compensate for it. Includes keypresses on the keyboard, WASD.

Input sometimes not registering

I've had a few run ins with this and it seems to sometimes get worse and sometimes get better. My keyboard and mouse inputs sometimes will not register and I have to execute them multiple times to get them to register. Basically lost inputs. I've tried multiple different peripherals and it's pretty ...

Re: Receive Side Scaling - latency hazard?

I had always thought the ISP were setting MTU size, and the optimum latency/speed was gained by matching this. Any smaller and you just incur more packet overhead (which is why your ping may get worse by a few percent). Yes, I was discussing the difference between being able to sneak a packet in be...

Re: Receive Side Scaling - latency hazard?

Downloads of any size affect your latency because there's a queue of non-gaming traffic in the buffers that the gaming packet has to wait for. What you need is router firmware that has application-specific QoS. Sadly, I can't recommend anything consumer that handles it that granularly but DD-WRT is...

Re: Receive Side Scaling - latency hazard?

Hmmm, then why does using bandwidth increase your latency? For instance streaming, which uses about 8mbps out of my 23 will increase my ping by roughly 2ms according to a long running pingplotter. Variance also increases quite a bit, not just the amount of spikes, but the amount of 'small' spikes as...

Re: Receive Side Scaling - latency hazard?

I realize this is a necro, but this is very much relevant to my interests, specifically regarding MTU. I've went down the same exact road as Meadows over the years and MTU is still something that I end up with conflicting answers about. I realize MTU affects mainly TCP traffic and in a perfect ecosy...

Re: Surround Sound Capture

Update to this, Dante appears to only work with stereo sources. When attempting to work with Dante Virtual Sound card in WDM it only displays stereo pairs, in ASIO it's not available as a device. Dante VIA wont recognize any input device with more then two channels. The moment you change a device fr...

Re: Surround Sound Capture

I will take a look at Dante, that looks promising not just for surround, but other mixing. I love the idea of using ethernet. The weird issue is finding hardware that does both encoding and decoding. Right now it's very possible to find capture cards that support encoded inputs that are much cheaper...

Surround sound capture for live encoding, video games. Getting a surround sound signal from one PC to another. Yes, DD encoding is an option, it seems as though finding a card that supports optical input and encoded formats (or LPCM 8 channel) is extremely rare and not something that is noted very w...

Surround Sound Capture

So as the title implies, there is a lot of different formats for surround sound, I'm looking to capture surround sound really in any format to get it from one PC to another PC in real time. I already have a capture card, but apparently they haven't implemented LPCM capture for more then stereo (they...

Re: The Last Great Plasma!

Agreed, still hanging on to my old school Sony WEGA plasma TV. It doesn't even do 1080p, it does 1080i, but after watching countless shows on it, the picture just feels more vibrant and alive. Something of the allure of old school CRTs and seeing the picture crawl a bit. I'm not sure what it is, but...

Yeah, the weird thing is you can find the 8400 and the 8700 on a semi-regular basis (I could go get one from Microcenter). They are rare, but they aren't $800 8700k rare. Seeing as they're better binned versions of the K series, it does make me wonder exactly why the K series is being held back and ...

8700k Availability

So neither the 8600k or the 8700k were available at launch from Newegg (they were preorders). I've been checking regularly and B&H now lists availability at Nov.28th. Coming soon seems a bit disingenuous. No one is claiming paper launch at this point, but it very much seems that way. Even the su...

Got the new PCI-PCIE bridge in and it doesn't work either. Same problems as the first one and the switch. Other cards show up in device manager and are detected properly, 9XX series does not. It uses a different bridge chip then the Startech ones, a PLX instead. This is the new one: http://www.ebay....

Re: Tricky Nvidia GPU Issue

But I find it more likely NVIDIA's cards simply aren't seeing the slot power they expect so they won't even try to power up. {img} There are different versions of them, but that's what they look like. That has its molex's +12V hooked up but not the +5V; a PCIe slot is supposed to be able to deliver...

Re: Tricky Nvidia GPU Issue

Yup, as per my original post I tried it with both a powered and unpowered riser. A powered riser injects 12v into the riser itself so the motherboard or in this case the bridge card doesn't provide any power to the card. They're normally used for mining and are pretty standard, you can find them on...

Re: Tricky Nvidia GPU Issue

There's something that's been bothering me for a while about that PCI to PCIe bridge. The fact it doesn't have a molex or PCIe power connector on it. Makes me question if it does the full PCI 25W. Needing a powered ribbon on top of that just seems messy. The 900 series cards could have hard limits ...

Re: Tricky Nvidia GPU Issue

I know you're just trying to offer solutions, but this solution is plug and play. Each slot is worth about $50 put into perspective of the whole system and a lot less hassle then building more systems. Currently I'm fishing around to see if maybe there is a weird driver glitch or hack that's stoppin...
