Re: New notebook in a few months

I just picked up an Acer Aspire V5 last week while on sale ($550) for the family. * A10-5757M (2.5Ghz / 3.5Ghz) * 8GB RAM * AMD Radeon HD 8750M (2GB dedicated) For me, I decided it was more important to have graphics performance over CPU, and it never leaves the house, so I am not concerned about ba...

I have been using a UAP-Pro for my home network for a few months now. I run the controller software on my Linux server as a service which is accessible via web UI. The UI is pretty slick, easy to navigate, nice reporting and quick AP configuration. It has the usual features, integrated captive porta...

A one year renewal of the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite Bundle is about $300. That bundle gets you all the goodies, web content filtering, P2P blocking and 27x7 support. If you are not using those features, Dynamic Support 24X7 is $125. Add to that about 1 hour of time (really on 10 minutes) ...

Re: IE/FF rendering css page widths differently

While not directly on topic, I strongly suggest that you look into using a responsive web design framework (RWD), such as Bootstrap . These frameworks take most of the hard work to make your layouts render nearly identical across browsers. An if that is not reason enough, Bootstrap is based on a gri...

So I installed the NoScript add-on, I can see why this triggered the Captains warning. The main affect of disabling javascript is related to ads.
Does anyone have tangible reason related to security?

Do you disable Javascript? Why?

To those of you who disable JavaScript in your browser, why? The NoScript add-on for Firefox is ranked as the 8th most popular. So there are many users out there that believe there are benefits, I just want to know what they are. Or is this more of a legacy habit that started a decade With so much o...

I definitely agree that the mods do a good job of cleaning these threads/posts once they are detected. Re: Which UPS? (to allow 5 minutes to shut down a workstation)

Take a look at the APC UPS selector.
Pick the workstation option and select the appropriate options.
You will most likely end up with the APC BACK-UPS 900VA 120V.
The '900VA' is the key part to compare against other brands/models.

If the data transfer between machines will be irregular, you may just want to install WinSCP on the Windows PC and enable ssh server on the Mac.
WinSCP has the good old commander interface, so you can just drag and drop files and folders from one device to the other.

To add what Lexington said, mobile in Canada is a bit sad. Bell and Telus are publicly competitors, but privately partnered to build their new HSPA network, so there is no differnce between them. Bell has the Samsung Galaxy S.
