Re: Updating the aging system

Thanks for the suggestions all. Looks like even a Ryzen 3 3300X is large upgrade over the 8350. I'll wait for some of the prices to settle and look at an overall update.

Updating the aging system

Hello all, hope everyone is staying safe. I am looking for some advice on the rig in my sig. I don't need a full upgrade as I barely game and it's mainly used for music, youtube and work. I do multitask quite a bit though and am at 1440P resolution Overview FX8350 16GB Corsair Vengence 240GB Samsung...

Welcome! As others have stated check for a vacuum leak. cheap test is a use a cigar for smoke and see watch for any anomalies near the intake system. You say there is no loss of power, but it's "rough" do you mean RPM or physically in the sense of vibration? If vibration change motor mount...

I've been shifting my focus from pc hardware to automotive, but I feel at least on the enthusiast end for both we buy more then we need. Granted it's not entirely the same as one requires user input more then the other but we all need faster/newer/better. All the main hardware in my sig has been pu...

Re: Connecting Issue on Ubuntu 16.04.1

Correct no other devices have any issues on the same network. I am using the driver that was automatically detected and downloaded by Ubuntu. Adapter is Intel I believe on the Intel HM55 chipset. I may pick up a slim usb adapter to fix the issue. I think I have a Netgear stick lying around to test....

Re: Connecting Issue on Ubuntu 16.04.1

I assume none of your other devices are having trouble on the WiFi? It may be an issue specific to the WiFi chip in your laptop. Not all WiFi chips have good Linux driver support. Googling the specific model of WiFi chip may yield useful info. If the problem is your WiFi chip, you can try the chip ...

Connecting Issue on Ubuntu 16.04.1

Hi fellow Gerbils, I branched out from Windows 8.1 Embedded on laptop and am messing around with Ubuntu. Everything is good so far however I have an issue I have not been able to fix with googling. I am having issues with network connecting over wireless. Randomly and every few minutes Firefox will ...

Slight update - All has been well running on Virgin Mobile. Switched over to an iphone SE and have been happy so far. Activation was very simple and took 5 minutes no calls, just a few clicks online. SE is much better of a daily than the MotoG and since i never really customize a phone stock ios has...

Re: Winter driving sucks!

Michigan is about to get the first snowfall of the year this weekend. Remember to drive slower and leave some space between yourself and other cars. If possible and grab some snow tires. Even cheaper brand snow tires will act completely different in the snow vs a summer or all season.  Winters FTW  ...

Depending on how Zen performs I will be using in in a smaller case but still matx form. I'm currently running AMD hardware in a small configuration (Raijentek Stryx) and have had zero issues with heat. FX8120 at 4.0Ghz, R9 380 overclocked are main sources of heat. The northbridge and VRMs but out qu...

Re: Battlefield 1

So far the game has been quite enjoyable for myself. The multi-player has been fun but I find myself missing the action from older BF series (BF2 all time favorite). I also feel it's pretty difficult to go on streak. Granted the realism is part of the game with the early weapons but I hope that have...

Re: What are you driving RIGHT NOW?

Still have my E36 compact posted many years ago. Held up through high school and college. Now I've complicated things by swapping in a larger motor with supporting drivetrain and suspension mods. It's all paid off so no payment  so I can pay loans off quicker. Once this is done (winter) I will pick ...

Re: Finally decided to upgrade my 7 year old video card

Since you've waited this long I would wait until the aftermarket 4GB RX480 cards come back into stock. If you need now grab a GTX 1060. Both will work fine for what you will be doing. It lasting 7 years is all subjective. Anything higher end at this point, even now, will start to be bottlenecked by ...

Thoughts on SkyBCLk OC

With the recent development of ASRock updating the BIOS to remove OC of locked CPUs it got me wondering workarounds. The obvious thought would be to not update said BIOS. Granted then you may not have support for future processors but would able to keep the OC. The next issue I saw was the potential...

Hooked into motherboard as rest of case fans will be controlled via NZXT Grid Keeps northbride cool. Just used Hi Temp glue for a direct mount. No ...

The registration is easy for now, what comes down the road when the FAA sees their rules did zero will be seen at a later time. Hi, is this VRM cooling solution still working successfully ? I was concerned about the long term effects of thermal expansion when gluing (thermal epoxy) a single heatsink to a row of VRMs. In theory it should be negligible, but I wasn't sure. Thanks. So far so good. As for expansion I haven't not...
