100 million US customers and 6 million Canadians accounts compromised after Capital One data breach

An astounding 106 million accounts and credit card applications belonging to mega finance corporation Capital One's customers have been illegally accessed as a result of a recent hack into the company's systems. The breach occurred in March and was discovered on July 19. It has now been fixed. The ...

RAMBleed A New Side-Channel Attack

RAMBleed is a side-channel attack that enables an attacker to read out physical memory belonging to other processes. The implications of violating arbitrary privilege boundaries are numerous, and vary in severity based on the other software running on the target machine. As an example, in our paper...

I'm enjoying my new MSI GeForce RTX 2060 Gaming Z I bought at the end of March. The only thing I would like to have is a button to turn off the RGB since it's hidden in the case.

Shark has some vacuums that clean the brush of wrap around hair, their calling it Zero-M. Hair wrap means a whole lot of hands-on mess. With Zero-M®, that’s not your problem anymore. No scissors needed, no hassling with your brushroll, just nonstop hair removal and powerful deep cleaning. https://ww...

Re: Annoying marketing trend

No worse than AMD proclaiming the FX 8150/8350 is a eight core CPU when in reality it was a quad core with 8 threads. But those last four threads did have dedicated hardware unlike SMT that soaks up under utilized resources in the core.

Re: Is x86 RISC or CISC?

GPUs do NOT have an out-of-order engine, and instead rely upon the programmer to point out splotches of code which can become parallelized. CUDA / OpenCL / OpenMP, and other technologies, have made this easier to do. Since the programmer points out the parallelism explicitly, GPUs get rid of the ou...

Re: Is x86 RISC or CISC?

The Pentium MMX was the last cpu that executed x86 CISC. Everything up til today's current CPU is CISC on the front-end but gets decoded to RISC on the back-end. From Wikipedia: Some[who?] RISC proponents had argued that the "complicated" x86 instruction set would probably never be impleme...

Honestly a little hard to believe you held out until 2018. I understand not everyone has access to these components, or (necessarily) the funds to acquire them, but SSDs have been the norm for a long while now. First SSD for me was the Intel 320 80GB and that was back in 2011 sure it cost $190 but ...

Hmm, something weird is going on with that 2600X - I've never seen bandwidth drop like that with SMT use, and 39 GB/s only requires 2800 for me. That's some awesome Intel-grade latency, though, and massively better than my 1700 would manage at settings like that. I was after reducing latency over b...

Is this the standoff your looking for? I noticed my Phantek case had one pre-installed in the middle (Primary PCIe slot) and one up between the 8-pin CPU connector, and DIMM slots.
