Re: VIA Nano lives on

This 4 core Via Nano is close to AMD Jaguar in perf: https://browser.primatelabs.com/v4/cpu/compare/1495379?baseline=2312897 The Nano C4650 is also sold as the Zhaoxin ZX-C. The, to be released, ZX-D seems to have a 23% higher IPC in the Fritz benchmark. I would assume that general desktop usage wi...

Re: VIA Nano lives on

China wants its own CPU to be independent from the west.
A home grown x86 CPU would be just what they need.

VIA Nano lives on

Zhaoxin just announced that they will be launching a x86 CPU in the second half of 2017. This is from technology they 'acquired' from VIA Technologie's Centaur division. They have integrated graphics. I wonder if it's licensed or if it's S3 based. http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20170411PD211.html In...

The division can be added to the list of games having DX12 performance issues on Ryzen when combined with a nVidia card.

Re: 7700k, wow!

Out of curiosity did you OC your 2500k? Since it is a K I'd sort of imagine you at least attempted a slight OC, or were you running stock? It was so easy to OC my 2500K to 4.3 from 3.3 that I actually forgot that I OC'ed it about a year+ ago, on stock cooling with no voltage increase. I only ask to...

Re: Windows 10 and Ryzen - Performance Bug

So I thought I'd look at how much CCX switching costs. The only way I knew how to do that was to turn one of them off, so I did. The B350 Tomahawk can let you turn off four cores and run the rest of the CPU in either a four + zero config or a two + two config. I ran the GTA benchmark in both config...

Re: Windows 10 and Ryzen - Performance Bug

I run chips at just under throttling temps for 24/7 workloads for years. Unless AMD is again making thermal sensors that mean nothing (the FX line was so, so, inaccurate) and you're throttling under load...I'd say lean on it and see what it can do. IIRC they're supposedly pretty accurate right arou...

Re: Windows 10 and Ryzen - Performance Bug

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/956-24/retour-sous-systeme-memoire-suite.html This is interesting. The Windows scheduler especially falters when it bounces threads between CCX. At worst, 25% loss on B1. (4+0 completely deactivates one CCX, so 8MB of L3 cache. 2+2 means both CCX and 16MB L3 cache. Bo...

Re: H110 & Kaby Lake

I wonder if the reason for being able to hit 2400MHz is because that's Kaby Lake's max supported memory speed, whereas Skylake had a max of 2133MHz. Since the H110 series was originally launched for Skylake, that could be the reason for 2133MHz advertised. Yes, that is indeed the reason. Even with ...

H110 & Kaby Lake

I've made this post just to share my findings. Tested a i5 7500 with a Gigabyte H110M-S2HP and a pair of PC2400 memory sticks. Original BIOS (F4): no boot Updated with Skylake CPU to F20: boot with the memory running at 2400Mhz. Runs stable with no issues whatsoever. Funny how this H110 motherboard ...

Re: Ryzen and DX12

AMD is already aware that many games lack the optimization needed for Ryzen and is working with some 300 or so devs to correct the issue. There is an inconsistency as Ryzen should for all intents and purposes perform on par with 5960X, yet there are situations where it falls behind by as much as 20...

Re: Kaby Lake Pentium gets Hyper Threading

but then you have dual-core i7's too so the whole line is a bit more blurry on mobile. This drives me crazy when picking out a new laptop for work. I have to have the Intel ARK open on the second screen just to figure out what is what. And now Lenovo doesn't offer a quad-core in the T-Series. My 54...

Re: Kaby Lake Pentium gets Hyper Threading

Some of the Broadwell Pentiums and all of the Skylake Mobile Pentiums support Hyperthreading. I think the distinction between a Skylake i3 and Pentium is very slim in the mobile space Yeah, I should've clarified my statement to be the desktop versions of those CPU's.  It's anybody's guess as to how...

Re: Kaby Lake Pentium gets Hyper Threading

But what's more important is that some games that won't even boot on the current Pentium, will boot on this one. That seems like a silly, arbitrary restriction on the part of the game devs. Some hypothetical next-gen CPU with better IPC and/or higher clock speed could outrun 4 threads on a current ...

Kaby Lake Pentium gets Hyper Threading

If this source is to be believed, the new Kaby Lake Pentium will get a much welcomed feature: Hyper Threading.
I guess Intel has no choice, with some new games requiring a four thread CPU.

Re: Apollo Lake mATX motherboard launched

The Goldmont CPU cores are also quite a bit more powerful compared to the previous gen Atom cores so this can be a good office machine too. LPT is the dead giveaway.  It has no reason to exist in a modern office other than feeding ancient legacy peripherals (that are just getting broken-in given ho...

Embedded application is one category were it could serve but Apollo Lake is also pretty good as a media player. It has a 8-bit HEVC decoder & encoder.

Crucial MX300 prices

While checking prices from my distributor, I noticed how cheap the MX300 actually is. So I quickly checked on Newegg too and it's really pretty cheap for what it is. 275GB is $70 and the 750GB is $184. 240GB SP550 is $62 but is quite a bit slower. 250GB 850 EVO is $90 btw. I was not too amazed after...

Computerbase.de has made an interesting comparison between the Radeon R9 280X, Radeon R9 380X and Radeon RX 470. All clocked at the same frequency and configured with similar memory bandwidth. All three have 2048 shader units. https://www.computerbase.de/2016-08/amd-radeon-polaris-architektur-perfor...
