I currently have the Antec P180 case. That's very big, and has room for 5 120mm fans. It's also made out of aluminum, so it does act as a giant heatsink. No, it doesn't. Yes it does. http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=81800 The P180 is mostly plastic and steel... but even full alumin...

I use KDE because it is more tweakable. I never really got into Gnome because it seems too cartoony. The apps are generally interchangable between KDE and Gnome, so you aren't giving up anything except the interface using one or the other. You really think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Kde35.p...

By desktop case do you mean an actual desktop (think old school or HTPC), or a tower case? For a tower case I would recommend the Silverstone TJ04 http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-tj04.htm For a desktop case I would recommend the Coolermaster Cavalier http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/Products.a...

As long as your OS has a reasonable implementation of SMP (which all recent versions of Windows and Linux do), "taking full advantage" of multi-core isn't really an OS issue; it is a development tools and application architecture issue. DOS/Win9x/ME didn't support SMP at all; if you had a second co...

"Taking full advantage of the processing power that those multicore architectures potentially make available requires operating systems and development tools that don't exist largely today," Barnett said Windows currently will run on multicore processors, but is not fully optimized for them, accord...

Could you remove the drive from the NAS unit and temporarily install it in your machine to get it partitioned?

Otherwise you might try a third party utility such as Partition Magic to try and partition / manage the drive once it is mapped correctly to your machine.

Well, you might consider the fact that 2x512MB SODIMMs might have better timings than a 1GB stick. Intel rigs, not having the onboard memory controller, do gain some performance from lower latency RAM.

Vista won't be optimized for dual core CPUs. That's not to say they won't provide a smoother user experience in Vista, but it's not a requirement by any means. The main things you'll want to worry about are having at least 1GB RAM, ideally 2GB and a video card with at least 128MB and ideally one tha...

Intermittent DSL light on the modem indicates a telco issue.

You need to be calling your ISP, not cursing DSL on TR forums.

My opinion, it was just a buggy driver, or driver conflict with that game in particular. Buggy third-party drivers and software are the biggest source of instability for a Windows-based system. I would've recommended trying an Omega optimized driver - http://www.omegadrivers.net - which usually runs...
