Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

Are MacBooks really worth it? If you want macOS, get a new MacBook Air and spec it correctly.

Windows or Linux? While I would recommend a Thinkpad, there are plenty of very good choices out there.

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

It is worth it if you get the newest MacBook Air. Simply put, Apple has decreed that everything shall be TB with USB3 connectors. That means dongles for just about everything else. That may not necessarily be a bad thing if you get the right dongles and keep it with you. Spec out the best MacBook Ai...

Re: Nuclear, Solar, & Wind Farms, Oh My!

Continuing this from that super derailed Tesla thread. Wind and Solar are great but have a hard time provided continual energy. Coal and Oil and NG are dirty. Nuclear has some nasty byproducts which we need to get better at managing. Since Natural Gas is cheaper and cleaner than Coal, Coal is unnec...

Best antivirus / antimalware protection for Windows 10

I have a new all-in-one HP Pavilion that came with Windows 10 and I need to know what is the best way to protect it. What software is the best for internet protection for viruses/spyware/malware etc.?

Wade Philips will stay. No reason for him to be an NFL head coach again since he has mostly failed at the head job. John Elway does have some serious rebuilding to do though.

Re: Super Bowl 50

Agreed on the defense. They will franchise tag Von Miller so that he can stay. Osweiler will test out free agency. I am not sure John Elway can keep that defense together because of the salary cap. Remember, the Patriots could not retain Darelle Revis or any other higher-priced defenders for that re...

Re: Playoff Football

Just like with Carson Palmer, Peyton Manning still doesn't seem quite right. I was hoping they'd leave Osweiler in there, but knew it would never happen with Manning and his legacy. Unfortunately I don't think any team with a less-than-100% QB is going to beat Carolina. Carson Palmer has only won O...

Manning to Super Bowl 50...now that is a story. He'll be facing a tough challenge no matter who wins the NFC, but it's nice to see the old man in another big game. Hopefully it goes a little better for him than the last time . I hope so too. Two things are better for #18 this time: a much improved ...

Why install W10 instead of W8.1

Windows 10 seems to be somewhat controversial for various reasons.

I already have an OEM version of Windows 8.1 I plan to use with my next PC build within the next month or two. Aside from DirectX 12, are there any real advantages or disadvantages of installing Windows 10 instead of Windows 8.1?

Ok, a previous poster was right. The Magic Mouse sucks. It has started developing connection issues, oddly though only when playing Skyrim on Windows 10. It is also to small for my hands, as I have to curve my fingers to keep it on the touch-sensor part if the mouse. It gets very painful after seve...

Re: best USB speakers

Say - can Microsoft sound drivers reduce sound quality at all (like graphics card drivers and performance), or is it just a matter of features, stability, and it works or doesn't? In theory a badly messed up driver could degrade or destroy your sound quality, but I'd say it is pretty unlikely. Espe...

Re: The Loudness War may well be over, courtesy of Youtube

As long as dynamic range is still being compressed on a LOT (if not ALL) new music, music is essentially unlistenable. Dynamic audio compression is ruining music as we speak. Clear Channel is not much better since they consistently push bland boring pablum on the masses just about everywhere. Too ba...

Re: Refilling inkjet cartridges

When it comes to speed, nothing beats a laser printer. When I had to print a LOT of pages for a job I had two years ago, I bought a Brother HL2240 for about $100. Other than ONE toner cartridge, it has been nothing short of fantastic. IF you need color, then an inkjet is your best bet. If not, get a...

It is because not enough power comes from a typical USB port to the Lightning connector for it to charge an iPad Air.

The new MacBook seems like a tablet to those who hate the limitations of tablets. As for the ZenBook UX305 and similar notebooks, it is a good thing that Apple is pushing the envelope on these things. Otherwise we would still have laptops that look like something out of a Best Buy Sunday insert at a...

Better than an R9 285?

It seems to me that the R9 285 may well be the best bang for your buck video card out there for around $200 without rebates. I have a simple question: even including TR's review of the GeForce 960, which card is the best for about $200?

You're not likely to get a great DAC in a set of USB speakers. Alternatively, you could look for a USB DAC, which you could move from computer to computer pretty easily.
