Re: Anonymous Gerbil Slack

For some reason I can't use slack, every invite to a slack automatically creates its own slack for me, then gives me their temporary free premium thingy and adds any foreign slack channels as a collaboration channel dependent on the premium. Dunno if its because I have a custom domain for my email o...

Re: Who is left

Over 20 years on a site... I don't think except for Ars and TR I have anything left on the internet that is that old... A lot happens over 20 years though, going from working as on site support in 1999 to becoming involved in networking full time in 2006, and going over to security side a few years ...

Re: Something's different...

I think it would've been better if Scott and the others would've moved on and just and putting TR to rest instead, this current abomination is a sad state of what was one of the best tech sites on the internet. The current hardware itch when I need it I usually go to gamers nexus youtube for reviews...

Re: Who is left

It's funny, there's an article on the front page telling us how to build robust communities. I think there should be some demonstrable evidence that you know what you're talking about when you write an article like that. :-? The old techreport knew how to build communities, the current one, I haven...

Re: Remember the good times?

It started out at something special, and I see why they split from Ars... It was close knit, quirky, and pioneering in many ways. Who don't remember when the article got replicated and they just hotlinked the images so they were all switched out to certain qualified technicians... or all of the weir...

Re: Something's different...

Been wondering when I can renew my somewhat not so well aging Vega 64 to, most likely a 6800xt. The Asus Tuf seems to trickle out a few at a time, but its hard since there aren't really many preorder lists available here, its first come first serve after they get in to the stores. But then, paying $...

Re: Hello The Tech Report

The site was unprofitable, and as a result was sold. New owners don't seem to be interested in producing the sort of content that used to be TR's "bread and butter"; instead, it appears they've cut expenses to the bone to stop the bleeding. It is entirely possible the site can continue to...

Re: My younger brother played a game on higher than optimal settings on my laptop.

Depending on the laptop, running too hot for too long, can lead to warping of certain things as well as bad connections in BGA chips, etc. But it would need to be seriously hot for that to happen usually. But with everything in such close proximity, getting hotspots is not to unocommon.

Considering the price and quality of large TV's these days, and me still being on a 1080p projector and being very happy with it. I would say this, make sure you really want a projector. To be honest, if Beat Saber wasn't a killer VR title, IMO from the first 3 chapters, Alyx really hits a bunch of good spots. And with Medal of Honor - Above and Beyond from Respawn later this year.. it seems we are finally getting some real triple A gaming content now. Now, if they can gather enough...

Using old version of Axcrypt myself.
1.7 available from here.

The new version requires registering, etc.
Available here.

In a pinch, just use 7-zip with password and AES. Works fine as well.

IMAX 3D is 3D done right. I have never seen a glitch during IMAX 3D so far. It really immerses you in the experience. Imagine a frickin' Star Destroyer sticking almost half out of the huge screen. It's that good. Tron: Legacy in IMAX 3D was very good and not at all "look ma, I'm in 3D". I...

Look in the color profile settings for you monitor. It sounds like you have a set color profile where one program displays it with, and one without. If you cut and paste and don't convert the color space properly, it can get more and more casted as well, depending.

I still picked out all the parts I wanted and stuff, just that I let them put it together and get rid of all the packing materials. So in the end, i picked up 2 boxes, one with the computer and all left over tech cables and such in a custom box they deliver such in. Then a new monitor.
