Re: Win10 still capable of activating on Win7 keys, apparently...

Just on the original subject, it isn't possible for them to stop this process of using old keys. Think about it. Grab an original Windows 10 iso. Say you're offline. Put in a Windows 7 key. It'll accept it. There is no way for them to remove this. They'd have to then say "sorry the installer l...

ANYWAY. On the OP topic. This is good news. Do you HAVE to install Win7 first though? It would be nice if Win10 just allows you to enter a Win7 key when you format a machine with Win10 only.

According to some of the responses above, no, at least not if it's a Dell with a Win7 Pro key.

Re: Win10 still capable of activating on Win7 keys, apparently...

Yeah, by now I think we all (should) know that Microsoft wants to be the next Facebook or Google, and has gotten as far as collecting and storing a massive amount of Windows and user analytics. Hopefully we can avoid another massive thread derail arguing about the evils of Big Data. It's already her...

Win10 still capable of activating on Win7 keys, apparently...

Not to get anyone's hopes too high, because officially Microsoft doesn't support this upgrade path anymore, but I just picked up a derelict Dell E5420 laptop (mobile Sandy Bridge-era CPU) from the discard pile at the offiice, and it had a Win7 Pro key inside the battery compartment. I upgraded it to...

Yeah we have oil... But every state has something that is worth lots of money... They just didn't manage it like Alaska did. Uhm, in the entire world, I can think of only two locations that had the right combination of mineral resource wealth, politics, and population density to do what Alaska has ...

Re: Warning about Newegg

It blows my mind that someone who buys a $194 item is taxed almost $20 on that. Glad I don't like in WA, that stuff is for the birds... Washington has no state income tax, so they collect it elsewhere, including sales and property taxes. Meanwhile Oregon has no retail sales taxes, so one of the mor...

Re: Cheap laptop with good keyboard.

I really go out of my way to avoid using the built-in keyboard on my work-issued MBP. When I am at work or working from home I plug a full-size keyboard (I have a pair of trusty old RK-9000s, one at home and one at the office) into it. If I want to get stuff done on the bus/train, I drag a 2nd lapt...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Speaking as an engineer, and a fairly well-positioned one, I'm stuck trying to figure out where all these powerful engineers are. Well let's start with the here and now. You typed that on a keyboard, which was created by engineers and most likely manufactured by mostly-automated equipment which was...

Any word on long-term hinge durability for that Aspire 5? One reason why I buy and recommend Dell Latitudes is that they have enough metal in the hing and lid structure to not pop apart in a year.

I am deeply distrustful of refurbs or otherwise not-new laptops. I've gotten other techy things refurbished and I've never had much luck with them. But both ya'll seem to like them? I'll definitely check it out and keep it in mind, thanks so much. Dell Outlet does alright, you get the manufacturer'...

Re: Can a 2-way / 10" woofer produce great midrange?

But here's the thing. I just bought some 3-way towers (which I would have to sell if I love the Klipsch more) and I'm concerned about the KLF's not having a dedicated midrange. They are crossed over at 2KHz, which to me seems high for a 10" woofer. I don't want to get these and be disappointed...

Re: Please help laptop LCD monitor goes crazy

"The LCD cables looks okay" isn't a valid test, damage can occur inside the cable and it's often cumulative the way you describe. Since this occurs right from startup and the external monitor works okay, that's a pretty good guess the cable or the driver circuit on the LCD itself is fried....
