Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Changing the subject, apparently there was a meeting today where the importance of "solutioning" and being a "solutioner" were mentioned. I figure I dodged a bullet there; how many points do you figure I would've lost off of my IQ if I'd attended that meeting (and actually paid ...

Re: Time to update everything WiFi

There still are many who haven't released a patch or update yet as found here and appraently a few people and companies saying that VPN can be a solution for them until the update arrives like this . So, is it actually the case? Is using a VPN a solution? and how is it if anyone can make me underst...

Re: Windows 10 Fall Update Build 1709

First casualty: The Fall Update has borked the display driver on my HTPC. Intel HD Graphics 610, Kaby Lake Pentium G4650. Before, it worked fine at 1080p over HDMI. Now it tries to launch some "unsupported mode" as soon as the startup screen is complete. I have no idea what that mode is or...

Windows on ARM: Not dead yet

Apparently it came up at a Qualcomm event again. Still making plans to release it, and claiming multi-day battery life:

Re: Obsolete IT in the wild

I always chuckle when I go into a mechanic's shop or a small business and see a text-only screen (or even better yet, one wrapped by a VirtualBox window) and a tractor-feed invoice printer. They still have that at the local Lowe's. On one hand, "if it works..." But on the other hand, a Ho...

Intel has released drivers that correct the problem. https://security-center.intel.com/advisory.aspx?intelid=INTEL-SA-00101&languageid=en-fr Thanks. My Haswell-era ultrabook had an Intel 7260 and took the update with no issues. My Sandy-Bridge era laptop has a Centrino-N of some sort not listed...

A major client of ours shipped us a "new" laptop that allows us to QA our product on their platform. It is running Windows 7 Enterprise. Our company has about 700 employees still running Win7 Pro, i.e. pretty much everyone on the engineering floor. IT tried validating a deployable ...

Sometimes you have ground planes in the PCB that also act as fairly good heatsinks. In those cases you may need to desolder the pins individually using a cranked-up iron and either a desolering bulb or a reel of desoldering braid.

I still don't understand the hate for Win8/8.1. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have Win10 instead, but who spends enough time in the start menu that it mattered? Re: Places to buy replacement LCD panels?

Bit of good news: The seller is very communicative. They are going to test the returned display and if it works in the shop, we have to assume the eDP cable in later versions of this laptop doesn't support 19x10 resolution, in which case I may be able to exchange for the IPS 13x7 option which they d...

Apps > UI ¿Por que no los dos? Because apps make or break the phone experience, and people judge the OS as a result. Given a choice between apps or a smooth UI experience, I'll obviously take apps, but there's no reason they can't both be good. Android's UI fragmentation and relative "hitchine...

It happens several times a day, and it is very brief... has only been occurring for a week or so. I'm no stranger to sleep...

Okay, you specified LGA 1151, so that takes one variable off the table. But do you already have a list of other new or existing components that you want to use with this build? Those could limit your choice of motherboards and layouts, particularly how many peripheral cards you intend to add (if any...

If there's a small local brewery on the tap list I generally go with that, unless it's something I know I don't like. I've found that usually means IPA variant #23,456. While I "get" that a balanced IPA is possible, it seems like it's become the Starbucks Coffee of the craft beer world --...

Not being a coffee drinker, I never have to deal with that issue. Instead I get to whine about lack of non-mainstream beer choices at many restaurants (though this has gotten a lot better in the past few years). Re: best wifi adpter?

I'm finding with most (but not all) boards that include WiFi, that the included antenna is the desktop type with a 3ft cable - normally long enough to get it away from all the interference at the back of the PC. In the US market, that usually happens somewhere around a board sale price of $150. Giv...
