Re: upgrading my my old laptop cpu .. i need help please

your cpu is sandy bridge based, listed cpu is an ivy bridge processor, chipset largely supports only sandy bridge processor, this link says a select few ivy bridge are supposedly usable, but i wouldn't count on the laptop saying its all good. i would think an i5 2430m or so would be an achievable up...

Re: Will my TX850 power tri SLI 770's

I think you'd likely be cuttin' it close, the 770 is rated at 230w tdp, and 3 would take about 690w(or about 58amps roughly) if you load em up real well, then you've gotta figure how much extra power the oc'd cpu takes and then the rest of everything being powered in the system. evga's website says ...

still running an auzentech x-mystique on pci, it has been through like 4 builds since i got it. honestly aside from my gpu, nothing is using the abundance of pcie slots on my 990fx board... bought the auzentech sound card back in 2006, the cmedia 8768+ chipset on it seems to be fairly close to the l...

Re: What is the oldest computer you will still work on?

personal computer wise, my oldest is an elitebook 8530p, p8700 with intel x25m-g2 80gb ssd and 3gb ram... it's only about 6 years old, still kicks it well enough with new stuff, just battery life could be better. oldest system in the house still in use is an iMac G4 1.25ghz 1gb ram nvidia 64mb mx440...

Re: Should I upgrade this CPU?

i recently upgraded from an ahtlon ii x4 645 @3.1ghz, to an fx8350, massive improvement on nearly every front, running 2ish ghz the fx can walk away from the old athlon, massively better performance overall (at stock 4ghz) in GW2(most ive seen it use was like 6 cores, maybe 7), can actually run grap...

Re: Audio on DVI-to-HDMI on Nvidia 400 series?

yea the gtx 460 can do audio over dvi to hdmi adapter if you don't have a mini hdmi port on the thing or dont wanna buy a cable to use that port... the 9 series was i believe the last of the cards to not transport audio over dvi to hdmi, my old 9800gtx+ didn't want to do that.

Re: So, sell me on a new graphics card.

you've got a pretty identical system to me, athlon ii x4 645 that had a 460 2gb, and replaced it with a 7870 back in march for 2x performance at roughly same tdp... and put the 460 in my dads machine to replace a hd4850 512mb the 460 itself is still a good card, if at 1080p you are playing games wel...

Re: Trying to use a PS3 Dual Shock as a PC gamepad

look at a logitech f310? i bought mine on ebay for maybe $17 back in march, replaced my old dual action, and if i flip a switch it's seen as a dual action for older direct input stuff if needed, 99% of the time it's a 360 controller. a shame the f510's were discontinued and sell for high enough $ :-...

i've got a bit over 100 hours, the game is playable with mouse & keyboard, its not great though... i'm using an old logitech dual shock and its decent enough despite some buttons not wanting to map 100% correctly. the game is challenging, but thats what makes it fun. i've probably got some chara...

Re: Looking for a good reliable video card to connect PC to

base minimum tv's still have vga ports and maaaybe a 3.5mm audio plug or a stereo rca plug near the vga input for audio. it's component level quality but largely good enough for most videos, and is the cheapest method aside from buying a new video card. unless the intel video doesn't support video a...

what about business notebook of the 15.6" range? they usually have the option of workstation Quadro or FirePro graphics and start around $800/$900 base.
id check with school and see what discount options could be done if they offer something like an Elitebook, Thinkpad, or Latitude.

Have you taken a look at any of the reviews of models you might be interested in at Notebookcheck, or possibly even Notebook Review?
Aside from going into a store, you might get a better idea if you want that model or not before looking at it.

wouldn't a 1080p hdtv be about your only choice in that price range? like a 32" or so with ips type panel. for most purposes it works, just not quite the same picture clarity as a computer monitor could provide. it's nice say going from my 16:10 22" tn 1680x1050 to a vizio 32" ips 108...

Just something I've been wondering. Anyone notice a point at which is seems futile to try and use more cool on your processor. for stuff like web/video watching, you're generally using 1-2 cores max anyways, performance wise a 3.6ghz fx-4100 vs a 3.1ghz athlon ii x2 isnt gonna be really any different except for price and tdp gaps. i think piledriver at least makes enough of an increase to make it worth it over bulldozer. cl...
