Re: Forum Technology - What's the best?

phpBB is a solid choice, though watch out because the quality of mods... varias a lot. I did some dev work with VBulletin some years ago and I swore I would never touch it again in my life. lol, I have heard that since v5 came out it's much better. vBulletin is actually getting more momentum right ...

Thank you and keep the ideas coming. Service Provider information is also appreciated. We're expecting 10,000 members the first month, just to give you an idea of how much support and infrastructure services we'll need. As far as PHP/MySQL being bad, do you guys see any showstoppers in my requiremen...

Re: Forum Technology - What's the best?

PHPbb is probably going to be your best bet, it has a boatload of addons that should provide whatever special functionality you need. I'm having a hard time even thinking of another forum package that's been actively developed since 2005 or so, excepting WordPress--which isn't really a forum--and l...

Forum Technology - What's the best?

Hey everyone, I know I know long time no post. I got out of the distributed computing effort a couple of years ago and got too old to play videogames. I'm a bad Gerbil. Anyway, I am not sure where to post this but was hoping to solicit feedback on forum technologies, and which is the best to use now...

Re: Did I brick it?

Try it in another system. Try it with a SATA-to-USB adapter. If neither of these tests elicit any signs of life from the drive, then yeah it sounds like you bricked it somehow. Is it still under warranty? I'll try a SATA-to-USB adapter tonight and see what happens. It should be under warranty. Only...

Did I brick it?

I have a Corsair P128 SSD that had the old non trim firmware. I went online, got the update software, created a bootable flashdrive, and updated the firmware. I then booted using a mechanical drive and partitioned the P128. I used Acronis to clone a 500GB bootable mechanical drive (with 100GB of dat...

Re: UnitedGerbilNation's drive to the Top

I think our team's best writer(s) should slap together a plea for more folders, because we're going to be passed by another team in barely 2 weeks and then we'll be further behind the top 10 teams, and things don't look very good from there. Yea, I noticed that too. Got a 580 chugging out 16K. Not ...

Re: Is it worth upgrading RAM?

Thats what i was fearing, cant really afford a I7 rig atm :D So general system performace will not be noticable? No fps increase in world of warcraft for example? What is the point of having different RAM speeds then? Faster RAM will still speed up your system a little, it's just an incremental inc...

I've gotten some good answers to questions and a some parts suggestions, both of which will save me some time in my research, some of which was seemingly very reluctantly given out. There are plenty of questions I still have to ask though. I have also gotten a bit of unnecessary grief, like your po...

The node I got from Jeffry is nicely in the basement where it is cool, but I have to avoid the gaming computer in my room being on too much in this heat, so it's not really folding in the summer. The 8800GT system sits at work now, and I fold with it 8 hours a day while I work. My media center no l...

Re: As the Work Unit Crunches

http://techreport.com/discussions.x/18962 According to the above link, nVidia 400-series GPU's now have CUDA 3.1-enabled beta drivers. Does this mean they can be folded on, now? Heh CPU only. I'll go back to my CoolerMaster V8, when I get my new P6TD. Hopefully the 965 lives on. Not sure since I wasn't there, but this sounds like you mobo may be toast... I'd keep the 480 out of those cards just because it's the fastest single GPU. (the 295s performance and features on one chip) Hoping mine aren't toast. Put one of those CoolIt ECO coolers on today scored the traces on the motherboard because IMO the design is poor. My rec room smells like burnt met...

Turning Aero off did though. That doesn't seem like much of a fix to me when I have to turn off features. I'm hoping there's a better solution.

Re: Decisions... Decisions...

Could be a power/heat problem, or a defective card. Also, have you tried backing off to an earlier driver version? The GTX295 runs fine so it's not heat or power. I have several noctua fans and a PCP&C 750 in a Coolermaster Cosmos case. Google indicates others have had this vertical line issue,...
