Re: 144hz, Display Port Cable Requirements

You can't go wrong with Accell Display port cables. I've tried other brands and Accell is the one that consistently gives me perfect results with 4K@60 hz 4:4:4 and 2560x1440@165 hz. Their 10 footer works perfect for my system - even when I used a Startech 3 foot DP 1.2 extension cable with 4K@60hz ...

Re: All but main drive disconnecting

I recall having similar issues with a Crucial SSD. I remember googling around and the problem is with the Crucial firmware. Even the latest still has issues. The solution that worked for me is to ensure Windows does not allow the drive to be powered off, ever, even when idle. If I recall correctly, ...

Re: USB port errors on my Asus P8Z68-V PRO

Hmm I have the same motherboard. A year ago it started having issues with the USB2 ports. I think my problem is that it can no longer supply enough power to the ports. The solution is to use a powered USB hub and plug that into one port, and plug all devices into that. That seemed to fix all my USB ...

I second the suggestions of using MoCA for unused coax lines. I use it myself, with a Ubiquity Unify product as the endpoint.

Re: Disappointed with GTX 1070 Performance, Possible throttling issue?

Is it working for you? Ever tested it? Yes, works fine. Although on my Sandy Bridge machine it didn't make much difference except that it virtually eliminates audio stutter on the desktop (NVIDIA HDMI audio controller also set to MSI). It never really had a problem to begin with, but it made a huge...

Re: Disappointed with GTX 1070 Performance, Possible throttling issue?

Just an FYI - for some unknown reason NVIDIA never enables MSI (message signaling interrupts) for their enthusiast/consumer cards (they do for their professional quadro lines). There is a slight chance that your card is being held back by when sharing an IRQ with another device. Enabling MSI via a r...

It will be a while before BTRFS gets there. Time will tell.

Re: Need help: CPU, GPU fluctuation

Ok. My main system is a Sandy Bridge i7-2600K, so maybe the newer CPUs/BIOSes always have the high performance timer thingy enabled now.

Try unplugging non-essential devices, in case they're doing something funny?

Good luck - these kind of issues are a big PITA.

Re: Need help: CPU, GPU fluctuation

Oh another thing - unplug unnecessary devices. A malfunctioning USB/SATA/PCIe device could mess up a system. Process of elimination!

Combine with the latency monitor program above - if the latency is unreasonably high that can be a clue that a device or device driver is malfunctioning.

Is the High Performance Timer (or whatever it is called) enabled in the BIOS? Some programs rely on this timer, but not sure about the task manager program.

It's a "headless" machine, so I needed something to remote-into it (..though I could have re-purposed my old machine), for that I also purchased a Cube iWork-11 Stylus. That tablet will also be used for drafting and remoting-into the server to run Fusion 360 (..it has a Wacom digitizer). ...

I'm keeping my eye out on the newest LG OLED TV. It's *only* $6500 or so now. Maybe in a couple of years it'll be $2,000, with Rec.2020 color, 10 bit color, HDR, etc. :)

Re: Win 8.1: Seperate display scaling per monitor?

As far as I know this isn't possible. It's very frustrating, as I have a 4K 24" monitor and a 1080p 24" monitor. Ideally I'd have 100% scaling on the 1080p and 200% scaling on the 4K. Instead, windows chooses to do some stupid weird concoction of 125-150% on the 1080p no matter what scalin...

Oh - you also wanted feedback. It was rather tricky to re-arrange the monitors in the proper order. I didn't read any instructions though. Also it wasn't clear how to apply the settings - I checked the Enable checkbox and I think that activates it?

Once I got it setup, seems to work so far.

Wow, I've been wanting a utility like that for a LONG LONG time. It's working great with my Dell 4K 24" monitor with my secondary 24" 1080p monitor.

This is awesome. Thanks again.

Re: New TV (maybe) this year...and a bunch of other stuff...

Expanding on what BlackDove has said - some 4K TVs will only do 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 color at 60 hz @ 4K. This is an issue if you wish to use the TV as a PC monitor. Another issue is that it is unknown what some of these 4K TVs have for color gamut. They may have the wider gamut (similar to AdobeRGB), lik...

Heh, I've been playing UT99 for 7 years now. It doesn't get old - especially when you have awesome mods like ChaosUT, NaliWeapons, Unreal4Ever, Monster Hunt, et. al. (multiplayer of course). I've never seen anything like them for Quake 3 - it just didn't have that fun factor for me.

Re: Surprising @ 4K resolution FX 8350 is faster than i7 493

4K without AA works well if the distance between you and the 4K display is the same as the 1080p display you were using before. Subjectively speaking, gaming at 4K without AA is like gaming at 1080p with NVIDIA DSR factor at 4.00x, at 1080p viewing distance. But actually crisper. Mass Effect 1 &...
