Re: Chrome keeps crashing! Help!

It's been so long since I've had to troubleshoot something that I forgot how to do it. Chrome kept crashing when I tried to open the browser. I'd hit 'close program', and it'd keep popping up with the same error. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and I keep getting the 'crashed' error that conti...

Since I'm on Android, If I want a larger version of my screen (with audio) on a bigger screen, I just mirror / cast whatever i'm using to my TV using my nVidia Shield. I'm sure you can achieve the same thing for your parents with an Apple TV so they can mirror the small screen on a big screen. I don...

Forgive me for asking the obvious, but what is she going to do when the machine eventually has a hardware failure and stops working? If the answer to that is what we all think and hope it is (RE she will have to suck it up and deal with a new OS), just drop a magnet near it now and get the ball roll...

Re: Fire HD 8 for 5 year old?

Curious if any gerbils here forwent the kids edition and bought something like the Fire HD 8 for a kid around 5 years old? My son is very in tune with tech (big surprise) and is very careful when grabbing my or his moms phone. I'm thinking that maybe this would be the year for him to get a device o...

Re: What the heck is happening to my internet speeds?

What happens if you connect your phone to his wifi and do a speed test? That would eliminate / narrow down the laptop as the problem. Also if that bears no success, then on your phone, from the screenshot it looks like you're using an Android device, go to the Google Play Store and download Wifi Ana...

My question is should I push the issue and manually download the update or leave things be, and wait it out? 50/50. While I don't have any experience with the D810 or the D500 (I have a D90 myself), I would be curious as to what exactly your problem is. Is it all the lenses or the camera body? Assuming all your lenses are FX lenses for the FX D810, they should work fine with the DX D500. The D500 will give you mo...

Re: USB wifi adapter slow

First You should try using something that will provide you consistent results, namely a speedtest website. I suggest using http://www.speedtest.net. They have an app that you can install on your phone and you can use the website for your desktop. Post your results from both, as well as your ISP speed.

Re: Effective focal length

The 5100 uses a DX sensor. This means that all lenses you mount onto it you have to multiply it by 1.5. So the lense you listed, 18-200mm, will have an effective minimum focal length of 27. Conversely the maximum focal length will be 300mm.

Hope that helps!

Re: Z87 chipset and RAM speed question

The base clock speed is tied to BCLCK. It is not locked on Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge and Haswell systems, so if you overclock the BCLCK. You will end-up overclocking PCI, memory, PCIe buses as well as HT Link. You can increase memory bus speed without overclocking by changing the CPU/memory multipli...

Z87 chipset and RAM speed question

First off let me start by saying I've built several PC's in my time, however the last one I built was in 2007 / 2008. I'm trying to figure out if my new CPU of choice, i7-4471, will prevent me from using RAM that's spec'd for 1866Mhz / 2133Mhz / 2400Mhz at those higher rates. I'm curious because of ...

The hard drive in my wife's laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520) is starting to show its age and recently showed some SMART errors. In an effort to stave off catastrophe, I took advantage of the deal posted last week on the Samsung 840 (250 GB)SSD. Her laptop has a SATA HDD (120 GB) obviously, and the BIOS i...
