Re: What is it about american media honchos

Here is a pretty interesting idea of everything 'new' just being a different version or remix of something that came before it.

Re: Groomsman gift ideas

I have been in two weddings in the past six weeks, and got interesting gifts for each one. The first groom gave us these . They are pretty sharp (one drew blood within 10 minutes), and came with a holster, because why wouldnt you carry a throwing axe on your hip day to day. The second groom personal...

Mine had a 50s buy in. I clicked through without reading the details, and lost horribly. I only had 56s at the time :(

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

I don't know off the top of my head, but one of the biggest gains for me in MMOs is usually around the number of effects or the detail of these effects. I used to lower those even in WoW days but admittedly on a less capable machine. Draw distance in games can affect quite a bit too, if those are o...

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

This actually is my 'upgraded' system :D I was running an old compaq with a AMD 3500+, 2 GB PC3200 and an AIW Radeon 9800. Needless to say, I haven't done any serious gaming in the last 6+ years. The setup I listed above was donated by a friend who was getting rid of some old components. Sadly, I ca...

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

I'm having a blast with the game, but my hardware performance could be better. I'm running it on a WinXP 32bit machine with a AMD 5000+ proc, 4GB of RAM (I do know that the entire 4GB is not addressable), and a Saphirre 4670 video card. I've turned every video setting in the game to low, and run it ...

Re: Guild Wars 2 Beta!!!

I picked up the game last Friday, and have put about 10 hours into it. I chose Eredon Terrace as my homeworld, but I see that TR folks have picked Henge of Denravi for their homeworld. I went to transfer just now, and Henge of Denravi is full! Does that mean that future TR members who pick this game...

The comic that comes up for me is the earthquake one above, and the first two panels are exactly the same. However, for North Carolina they decided to use a hurricane instead of snowfall.

Re: Cinemagraphs

It seems that the loop usually consists of the image being played forward at normal speed, and halfway through being rewound to the beginning of the footage. Some of the rewinding in the images is sped up if the motion in the photo needs to look spontaneous (giving the effect of a gust of wind in so...

Re: What are you READING right now?

Is Ender's Shadow good? The next book in the Ender series is actually Speaker for the Dead. Ender's Shadow is part of the parallel "Shadow" series that follows Bean instead of Ender. Speaker for the Dead is very good, by the way. I liked it almost as much as Ender's Game. I'm reading Blac...

I heard a suggestion that Krogoth needs to become a meme.... so I've taken it upon myself to get the ball rolling. Here are some basic memes. Of course, I think many othrer Gerbils can come up with much better ones, but you can use these as a starting point. 1. Here's Krogoth's reaction to Sandy Br...

I started with the housecarl chick, but she got in my way when I tried to fus ro dah some bandits. She is now at the bottom of a waterfall. Re: Anybody use Sleeping pills?

In college I had a summer where I drank so much that I couldn't fall asleep unless I had a decent bit of alcohol in me. I tried melotonin, with moderate to poor results. I eventually reduced my alcohol intake, and the issue went away. Occasionally I do take a sleep aid on SUnday nights, when my brai...

Re: TES V: Skyrim

I've had a few bugs happen to me that made quests incompletable (some of them for the main storyline). I try to make sure I have an number of somewhat recent saves to fall back on because of this. Markarth is a pretty messed up place- I did a sidequest in the abandoned house, and ended up getting a ...

Here's a question and I'm sorry if I'm repeating this, since I merely skimmed over some of the posts: If the Neutrino, did indeed, move faster than light...and one might surmise that, if something does, it could travel back in time...then, wouldn't the neutrino have arrived just prior, to having be...

Re: Games that make you RAGE

Battletoads was on both the NES and the Genesis, and they're the same game. Debating which is harder doesn't make sense. :p I don't know. Sid Meier's Pirates! was harder on the C64 than on the Nintendo. I agree, debating the SAME game across consoles is definitely debatable. The code doesn't transl...

Re: Games that make you RAGE

Last one I remember cursing at was Mario Galaxy, one of its jumping puzzles. I hate jumping puzzles; they're just an exercise in split-second timing. The ultimate expression of this need for precise and accurate timing would have to be NES Battletoads, which was so hard as to be unfair. I don't rec...
