Re: 16 COARZ.... Not announced by AMD

The abstinence of a customer-tier 16-core Zen2 desktop SKU can easily be explained that AMD doesn't want to cannibalize their Threadripper 1/2 line-up yet. They'll probably announce them around the same time as Threadripper 3's official debut. It'll also be probably be a challenge to run on older A...

I guess that's what happens when AMD leaves a bottle of their CPU "glue" lying around... someone else will start playing with it. Has anyone seen Chuckula lately???

Re: AMD wins big for DOE -

Ok, the overuse of "infinity fabric" in the article was confusing since you are saying the internode connects are still Ares or whatever Cray is using in 2021. That makes more sense. As for how much money AMD actually sees... That remains to be seen especially when the contract was awarde...

It appears to exist and not be a late April Fool's joke. link If so, that's great news for the future. Look, I am not stupid. They cannot make things like that yet. Not yet. Not for about forty years. Are you saying it's from the future? One possible future... from your point of view. I don't know ...

Re: Rollin' in my [PCIe] 5.0

I'd be very interested in a standard consumer CPU that implements effectively the same or slightly more bandwidth than Threadripper [60 lanes available PCIe 3.0 vs. 16 lanes of PCIe 5.0 is about the same] but only needs 16 lanes to do it, which makes it more practical for most motherboards on the m...

Re: Have $200, Will Upgrade

That R9 270X is roughly equivalent to an RX 560 with all of its pieces enabled, maybe a little faster. There's a big difference between that and an RX 580, so I'd consider that. But if you're still using the stock Intel cooler I'd also look at something like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 tower heatsink...

That's a really bad list of unaffected CPUs from SuSE there. Actual list at Intel's site https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/security-center/advisory/intel-sa-00161.html A list is a list... good or bad is a subjective perspective. You can basically assume nearly every Intel PC & Server base...

Most of the monitors available to buy right now are ancient tech. I'd wait for the next round of monitors with better responsiveness, widespread HDR, and refined strobing. Re: RTX 2080 and today's games

That said, keep in mind that the RTX2080 will probably outperform the GTX1080Ti (if Nvidia's history is anything to go by) once we see real benchmarks. So keep that pecking order in mind. I'm not sure how much we can rely on history. So RTX 2080 has a clock advantage, but fewer CUDA cores. Unless Tu...

My 1080Ti is a beast at 3440x1440 (let alone 2560x1440), and you won't be paying for RT silicon that you'll never see used in WoW. That said the 1080Ti is currently $650 on Newegg and the 2080 non-FE might only be $75-$100 more than that. I can't tell you if that's worth the premium until we see be...

Re: Ryzen BIOS update --> much better

Yeah, if your BIOS was from pre-1.0.0.5 or so AGESA, then memory compatibility wasn't great. Glad you were able to get something out of the update. Definitely ANY Ryzen mobo needs 1.0.0.6+ AGESA bios; that's where I really noticed memory timings and stability improvements. Unfortunately, AMD did ru...

Basically, mainstream CPUs have supported SSE2 for over a decade. While I feel some sympathy for people with old equipment, that stuff is old enough to predate Win7. By nearly a half decade, even. It's true. I was proud as anything to build a zippy Athlon XP 2400+... in 2004. It was a swell piece o...

I'll have to take a look at the manual and see what it says about memory configurations. The board is a Gigabyte F2A85X-UP4. I've run three sticks before in other boards, but it's been a very long time. It might be that I cannot use only three sticks, that it has to be four. I don't really have a l...

Yeah, I *am* trying to minimise noise/power - that's the point of an undervolt thread; "How cool/quiet can you go without giving up performance?" I've tried a 64 BIOS but it doesn't affect the minimum voltage I can put through the HBM2, nor does it let me clock the HBM2 any higher than 96...

I have no problem believing that they are artificially constraining supply (Because they've publicly said that they are!) in tacit cahoots, but the problem is that reacting to what your competitors say in their public filings/earnings calls isn't straightforward collusion. And that, I'm afraid, is ...

This should be interesting. We'll all get a few bucks and the lawyers will get millions. :P They may have a hard time proving it with server memory & GPU memory demand as high as it is... but yes, even if they do, the lawyers we get millions, user will get a few bucks and memory prices will get...

Supposedly, all motherboards marked Ryzen 2000 Ready have Bios that will work "out of the Box" with all Ryzen 2000 series (7, 5, G) CPUs. That being said I had a bad experience with an ASRock X370 PRO4 AM4 motherboard which is listed as Ryzen 2000 Ready on newegg.com and the box itself. I ...
