Re: What are you driving RIGHT NOW?

2001 Nissan Altima GXE SE. Nothing special, but it's very reliable and pretty decent on gas. Great acceleration for a four banger, too. Maybe next year I'll work on getting my motorcycle endorsement and a nice beginners sport bike.

Re: New system in mind... again. *UPDATED! AGAIN!*

So yeah, the dough just keeps rolling in. Just when I think I have everything figured out, my dad gets a job and is enthusiastically offering to help me out substantially with this build for my birthday. This tempts me to move on up to a regular desktop build, for the sake of overclocking and adding...

Re: Help me choose between two ITX builds.

It's settled then. I found someone else who posted about a SG05 build involving a clarkdale and a GTX 480, and he didn't seem to have any power problems. Thanks for all the help. Especially you, airman. If the stock HSF gives me any problems I'll find something to replace it. I should be purchasing ...

Re: tv shows you enjoy watching that aren't mainstream

"The IT Crowd" deserves mention. It suffered from a laugh track but other than that was very good. I love that show. Really quirky and unrealistic, just how I like it. If you like anime, Deathnote is a really good little 37 episode series. I can't really explain it. Just go find it on Net...

Re: Your FIRST Graphics Card Thread

My FIRST purchased card was a GeForce 6800 GT... I think. I bought it for my parents' computer so that I could play MechWarrior 2 and later Halo. My first actual build contained a Radeon X1950 PRO 512MB. Ran BF2 like a champ.

Re: Battlefield 3

SO excited. A game developed from the ground up to take full advantage of the latest in PC gaming hardware? A game that is actually MEANT to be played on PC? Yes please. BF2 has always been my #1, and I wasn't really fond of any BF games that have come out since. BC2 was alright in terms of multipla...

IIRC, only the i5-2500K has an unlocked multiplier.

Re: Gaming in Tight Spaces - MAX11L

Wow. I myself am considering a i5/6870 build inside a SG05, but I've been having doubts about the PSU's ability to sufficiently power everything. Now I know it's definitely doable, since you have a Clarkdale and a GTX 480 running inside of one. Thanks!

Re: Intel Core i5-2500K vs i7-860

Go with the new hotness, slap a quality aftermarket cooler on top, and overclock the living hell out of it. I assume you intend to overclock, since you quoted the 2500 K . You can find decent P67 boards at around $100 now, $20 more for one with good OC tools, and an adequate cooler shouldn't cost yo...

Help me choose between two ITX builds.

I got a lot of help in SBA so far, but my topic died for some reason. I've got it down to two different builds, both costing about the same, and both being competent and compact gaming machines. I can't choose between the two, but perhaps I'm being a little blinded by the aesthetics of one. Those ae...

Re: Top 3 PC Game Developers?

1) Valve. Portal and its successor absolutely blew me away. I still enjoy CS every now and again, and I have very high expectations for episode 3. L4D redefined the zombie genre for me. Steam has always been a joy to use. 2) Bungie. Not what they are now, but what they used to be. I logged countless...

Re: New system in mind... again.

Okay... so what would the benefit of this be: go back to the SG05 (I didn't realize they also had one with a 450W power supply), and go with an H67/i 5 setup. I'm not trying to put AMD down, you make a very good point about physical cores versus the i3. I'm just trying to get the most out of my syst...

Re: New system in mind... again.

Sorry I'm getting antsy. Perhaps I've had a bit too much caffeine today... anyway, I think with the larger budget, I'm gonna go back to an ITX setup. mATX cases really aren't as compact as I would like my system to be, and now that I have more money to spend, I can afford the slight premium that see...

Re: New system in mind... again.

OKAY, so, new plan. I came home from work today to a $400 check in the mail from my friendly neighborhood U.S. Treasury. This is completely unexpected, as I actually owed a little less than that on my taxes (luckily some student loan credits helped lower that to about $150). This is also awesome, be...

Re: New system in mind... again.

Also, are we looking at the same restrictions for the cooler as in the apevia case? If so, would that SFX power supply that JAE mentioned open up enough space for a larger cooler? Would 450 watts be enough to power a 6870 while providing sufficient headroom for overclocking?

Well there's a 500W OCZ ModxStream for $39.99 after a $20 MIR. I would imagine that a modular unit would come in handy with the limited amount of space.

Re: New system in mind... again.

Check out that last reply of mine. I probably posted it while you were writing yours. A mini-itx AM3 board is just not going to cut it, since (as you mentioned) the majority of them don't even have PCIe x16 slots. I don't need things like Wi-Fi, so such things are just extra fat that can be cut. I'm...

Re: New system in mind... again.

Okay based on your suggestions, I've done a little shopping. Correct me if I'm wrong about anything, but here's the new plan: CPU: Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition . Unlocked multiplier, and if I'm not mistaken, two extra cores that can be unlocked with the right motherboard. MOBO: Asus M4A88T-M LE . ...

New system in mind... again. *UPDATED! AGAIN!*

My 21st is coming up and above a lovely weekend at the beach or a limo to taxi me around downtown, I would very much like a gaming PC. I'm sick and tired of my 360 and all the run of the mill games that come out for it. Call of Duty and Halo have both completely lost my interest. It's probably going...

Thanks for all the stories guys. Before Bandit I had a golden lab mix that we got from a shelter when it was a puppy (a BIG puppy, but a puppy regardless). Pets that died

It's been a year and a month since Bandit died. Bandit was a ferret, and he was my first pet. I bought him with my own money when I was 16. He was just a few months old but he was already the biggest ferret at the store. I think his name makes his color pattern pretty obvious ;) anyway, I never thou...
