Finally settled on a Zenbook which will be here tomorrow. I couldn't hold out to see how these Carrizo machines look.

Re: AMD Catalyst 15.3 Beta Driver for Windows OS

Should I install this on win10, or just wait for a Windows Update release? I'm in no rush. (I guess considering I don't have a Freesync monitor, the answer seems kind of obvious.) 15.3 solved my CCC issues on Windows 10 10041. After the build update I lost use of CCC which was a pain because I have...

Re: AMD Catalyst 15. 2 Beta Driver - Update

I honestly don't see why anyone cares if drivers are WHQL or not. I wouldn't mind beta drivers to hit a bit more often, but when they did they changed pretty much nothing with every release. Haven't posted here in forever, but I agree with this sentiment. I'm wondering how much Windows 10 is factor...

Re: Looking for a Super Widescreen 2560x1080 Monitor

Just stumbled into this thread, I did not know about the LG 34UM95 34" IPS Panorama UltraWide QHD Monitor. Wowza! I'm on 2560x1440 now and my next monitor is very likely a 4K, but I love the UltraWide format for writing and gaming.

...definitely gonna need another 290....

My fix was to switch my mouse to USB3.0, I know the latency is higher on 3.0 but for me, FOR ME, it works perfectly, but yeah, some strange stuff happened when plugged into a 2.0 slot.

I just built one. After much debate I went AMD with the ASRock FM2A88X-ITX+, I love the mobo so far. I'm using an A6-6400K as a Kaveri placeholder. I looked at that case but read a few things about build quality that turned me off--stuff like screws stripping really easily--I know that would send me...

I buy sunglasses from Amazon. I you don't like them you just put them back in the box and put a sticker on it, drop it off at the UPS Store. I'm a Prime member so it all happens pretty fast. What would bother me here is that you're gonna want to try the frames before you get the prescription lenses ...

Re: Windows 8 UI and replacements

Great suggestions from all. Now: which version of Windows 8 should I use: Windows 8 or Windows 8 Professional? IIRC the only practical difference is that Pro offers networking functionality. If you're planning to join a domain, use hyper-v, remote desktop, that sort of thing, you need Pro. It's pos...

WiFi performance in cell phones.

Has anyone seen comparative benchmarks showing the WiFi performance--range, throughput and such--of modern cell phones? I see it with laptops, routers, NICs, but can't find any cell phone testing.

I use WiFI primarily on my mobile device and will be picking up something new in the next week.

Did you shoot in RAW or JPG?

I use the HDR Pro built into Photoshop CS6. If you shot in RAW that opens up a whole other realm of possibilities. Like 32bit HDR edits in the RAW processor.

Re: Why DDR4? Why not straight to DDR5?

Well, the '2' in DDR2 stood for 2 operations per cycle, correct? Did that number turn into a generation designation? The reason I had DDR5 being more or less GDDR5 was because I thought the '5' stood for something related to the ops per cycle. If it just means '5th generation' of GDDR then this make...

I haven't found this question answered to my satisfaction anywhere and I thought maybe this would be the place. We already have solid manufacturing of DDR5 in place and have for some time. Why are Intel and AMD going with DDR4 next, instead of must moving directly to DDR5? I know that DDR5 is expens...
