Re: SATA Card Blues

I'm a bit late answering...

I did replace the Core2 with an AMD solution, although I forgot what I went with. I've built two systems since then, a Ryzen 2700 system and a Ryzen 5600G system. Both are, obviously, light years ahead of the Core2 system, which is now retired.

Old Intel NAS Issue

I'm not sure if anyone is still here, but I figured I'd post a question to see if I can resolve an issue I'm having. I bought an Intel NAS back in 2009 or so. The Egg had them on some wild sale and I could not resist. Very nice hardware, and upgradable. The model is the SS4200-E. It sat up for a whi...

Re: Vaccinated?

I've heard people say they won't get the experimental injection because someone has to stay behind to bury all of the sheep. I got the J&J, although I'm not happy about it. None of these injections are anywhere close to completing Phase 3 clinical trials. Those usually take up to 4 years. For a ...

Generator Inverter Weirdness - Need Advice

Hi Guys, This problem doesn't really fit into the other categories, but I figured y/all might be able to assist. I finally broke down and bought an inverter generator. I have a pair of non-inverter gensets that I use since I live in Hurricane Alley and power loss can be for several days if we get hi...

I miss Tech Report. I wish the owners would do something with it rather than just letting the site languish. If all they were going to do was simply sit on it, I'm not sure what their purpose was in purchasing it in the first place.

Re: Case needed for business (non-gaming) PC

We seemed to have plateaued in speed at around 4 Ghz. The focus now seems to be on core count. Have we hit the speed limits for the x86 architecture?

Re: PC Power Supply Market

I finally found a power supply. I went with a Phanteks AMP Series 650W unit for about $100. From what I understand, it's actually a Seasonic-designed PSU. It seems to be working fine so far. It has a ten year warranty, which is nice.

Re: PC Power Supply Market

I think I'm going to hold out for a Seasonic, although I have no idea how long that's going to be. I'd rather get what I'm looking for instead of settling and then still having to get something better when they become available. I'm hopeful it won't be like the video card market during the Bitcoin m...

Re: PC Power Supply Market

Enermax is a name I've forgotten about. I never see anything offered by them anymore. I remember when they were the top choice for power supplies around 1999-2000. They made a 300W unit that was awesome. I went through a time when I bought a lot of Antec units, but they were not that reliable. Lot ...

Re: PC Power Supply Market

They now seem to be made by a company called High Power. But, it's apparently a better design. Just going by what I'm reading in some reviews I found. After OCZ bought them, they really seemed to kinda fall off the map for a long time. By then OCZ had a pretty bad rep. That Turbo Cool PSU I bought b...

Re: PC Power Supply Market

It looks like I can get another PPC&C unit if I want to. It looks like OCZ sold off their PSU line some time ago to another outfit. Reviews seem a bit mixed, far more so than for, say, Corsair or Seasonic. Sigh, what would you do?

Re: PC Power Supply Market

My HX650 (first gen) has been in service for almost 10 years. And at most I would be on 50% load. So I think my unit can last a bit longer? I'm not having any issues and my current PSU has always been hooked up to a UPS backup. So, it's always gotten clean power and well protected from any kind of ...

Re: PC Power Supply Market

It's been on my mind for a while now that I really needed to go ahead and upgrade my power supply. I realized my current PSU has been in service since 2013. I started looking at units from Corsair and Seasonic. Amazon had almost nothing in stock, which I thought was a bit odd. I checked NewEgg and t...

PC Power Supply Market

Power supplies are getting really hard to find. Anyone else having trouble? My current power supply is about 7 years old and I'm looking to put it on backup duty. But NewEgg, Amazon, B&H have nothing in their inventories. Any advice?

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

I've been getting more work units in the past couple of days. Today could be the first time in more than two weeks that my folding slots get close to full utilization. I'm not sure if it's just anecdotal, but I seem to get more WUs for my GPU after rebooting my computer. I'll check my logs and see ...

Try setting the folding power to medium. I find that, for some reason, I get more work units on that setting than on full.

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

Is anyone getting video card WUs? Best that I can tell, I haven't gotten one since the weekend. My card has been sitting idle after dozens of attempts to get a WU. I'm getting CPU units, but that's it.

Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

For a while, I was getting mostly video card WUs and my CPU was idle. That reversed a couple of days ago. I can't get any video card WUs, but the CPU work units have been coming in regularly. Of course, I don't get many points for CPU units. Sigh.

I'm in! I won't be running it 24/7, but while I'm not in the office I see no reason why I can't put some spare hardware to use. The gaming machine has an i7 6700k and an RTX 2070, so that should be a decent addition to the horde. :P When I installed the client last night it seemed to have no troubl...

I don't think that should be an issue. I've been idle most of the day. If there's a server problem, I would think Stanford should post something about it on the webpage.
