Re: Router hangs when desktop Lan connection in use.

i would go in the direction that Duct Tape is mentioning. make sure its properly cooled. its also a good idea to try another wired computer. nothing is impossible. i've seen "routers" go about their day until you start putting a little bit more stress than day to day browsing (aka netflix)...

Re: Need to replace AirPort Extreme setup.

we also service our house with Ubiquiti UAP-AC.
i installed 3 lite models (~CAD120$ ea). 1 on the basement's ceiling, 1 on the ground level's ceiling and 1 outside about 50' away from the house in our BBQ island. (bbq island is one single block of concrete and it radiates pretty good nonetheless)

Re: Fiber optic vs cable

we have a symmetric 1gbps FTTH (fiber to the home) with IPTV and coming from cable, the difference in latency is i believe what makes a difference. went from 30ms to major content providers to less than 5ms in most cases. steam is one of the few service that i can pull 600-700mbps from.

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

A former co-worker who recently departed to take a job in another state discovered Monday of last week that the guy who hired him had abruptly quit. They're telling him that his job is safe, but he's understandably a little nervous. He hasn't actually sold his house and moved yet (has been working ...

depending on your anonymisation needs, you can check that site. https://thatoneprivacysite.net/vpn-comparison-chart/

i've in the past had good experience with TunnelBear. not extremely fast, but fast enough for me to not notice while browsing.

Re: fixed poor amazon video quality on xfinity

they might simply redirect you to a local comcast netflix cache instead, and because its busy AF, you get lower quality?
it would be interesting to compare the stream sources (IP) between using comcast's dns and google's dns.

i'm not sure about all the providers, but most of them will provide some form of ISP controlled ONT and provide only ethernet on the premise.

Re: Compressing Data to Save Space

is virtualization an option?

we had 2 legacy app servers running windows 2003 that were running out of space (old proprietary applications that just grows overtime with no way to purge any of the old stuff). we ended up virtualizing them so we could increase the size of the disk pretty easily.

Re: Don't wanna wait for Zen - going Skylake. Sanity check?

I may have fallen in love with that grey Phantek, no joke. that's actually the one i have. i like the clean look of it. no 5 1/2 bays or anything that can compromise the clean sleek look of the front. i crammed a 360mm rad, an extended-atx board and a 140mm EK-res inside and it just looks gorgeous :)
