Just install Start8. it tucks the Metro UI away and you will not even see it 99% of the time. Adds a nice start menu that fits the Windows 8 look. Even I was happy to keep Win8 on my laptop, so that must mean something.

I haven't made a change to the OS, and I still don't see Metro 99% of the time.

Re: Help me pick a smartphone

Not saying it is this simple, but Gizmodo's chart this week has proved true for myself and a couple friends.

Re: Lookin' for a new TV

I bought this TV back in February at Walmart for $850 (w/ tax). So far, I love it.

Good luck, I hope you find a deal that works for you too.

Re: Red River flooding

Ah, I'm fine.... I live on a hill 2 miles from the Missouri... got no problem helping with what I can... pretty sure I'd only be able to make 10 sandbags, then probably pass out as my physical capabilities is equivalent to a wet towel... so sitting in front of a PC doing what I'm doing is perfectly ...

I work IT for the state (ensuring all of our critical servers, websites, etc are running for this emergency) so I see a lot of information from around the entire state. Currently taking a break, figured I'd pass this on for you guys... Welcome to the Floodzard of 2009... Here's a local news video ab...

I believe we have existing 8 HP1955 (19") LCDs we're going to use, but we maybe able to upgrade to 21". Haven't thought that far ahead, I'm focusing on PC power and desk/shelving for the monitors (thinking of getting a 'command center' type desk and hanging the monitors on movable arms).

That's what i figured, one PCI-E 16x Dual-DVI video card.

Ultramon would be great, but 3/6 of the people using the PCs prefer everything maximized with a low resolution (they are older), but I plan to test it out before the setup goes 'live'.

I have a full version of Vista Business (thank you college) installed on my primary machine, which has Intel P4 3.2 GHz, 2.5 GB RAM, GeForce 7900 GT. On that machine, Vista runs fine; Aero works, everything is much more stable than it was in the RC1 I tested last summer. The only drivers I had to in...

Personally, I don't care if my OS partition dies. I'm more worried about my files and other stuff. The only reason I keep my OS on a different HD or partition is that if I need to do an emergency format of my PC, I don't lose any important files. As for the 'My Documents' issue, I use TweakUI to mov...

just brew it! is correct. XP Home can not be "remoted" to, although is has the Remote Desktop Connection software to remote-out another computer. Windows XP MCE or Vista?

I was itching for a TV tuner for years, and finally bought one after seeing them work well with Windows XP MCE. I have a friend's WinXP MCE installed temporary while I decide the following: should I buy WinXP MCE for $109ish, or wait until Vista (Home Premium or Ultimate) to use the Media Center sof...
