Re: Bulding a silent PC and a few other questions

Thanks for the replies! It s all starting to come together now. Motherboard: It seems the motherboard can really be the cheapest one that features everything I need. Now, with just one storage HDD and one SDD I dont need tons of SATA ports. I dont need tons of USB 3 ports either, I think any board w...

Re: Bulding a silent PC and a few other questions

I am making my threat come true, I am back with more thoughts on my new system. Here s what I ve come up with: Core i5 3570K ASUS P8Z77-V Radeon HD7850 Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO Err.. alright. I said I am still in the process of consideration, didnt I. CPU seems like a good choice for a substantial...

Re: Bulding a silent PC and a few other questions

I am always astounded at the amount and quality of advice you can get by posing a question in this forum. Thanks a million everyone for your thoughts and pointers. I am aiming to indeed wait for the Ivy Bridge processors to be released (I can wait that long) as was suggested. Until then, I will have...

Bulding a silent PC and a few other questions

Hello! I am someone who has always built their own PC, mostly because I dont have a computer shop nearby that I trust enough to do things the way I want them to be. Maybe I am not trusting enough, but I had a bad experience. And I enjoy building the PC, aside from that. I am looking at building a ne...

Re: ruined my Mobo - WTF did I do wrong?

Hey the badflash.com is really a great tip - if I ruin one again, I ll know where to go to get a new chip. There is also plenty of links, including one in Europe, to get a new BIOS. Thanks for that! Just a little update again, I did RMA it, and I am getting it replaced, which is nice. But the postsc...

Re: ruined my Mobo - WTF did I do wrong?

Thanks for the replys. Update: I went to a shop that offered restoring my BIOS, by putting a working version back into it. Doing that, obviously, I did disconnect it from all power sources, and the battery was also out, as I had cleared the CMOS before (had already tried that), and actually forgot p...

ruined my Mobo - WTF did I do wrong?

Hello! I have successfully ruined my BIOS, and hence my MoBo - now is time for analysis on what the hell went wrong, I would wish very much for your valued assistance, what did I do wrong and is there anything I can do now? OK: Rig as follows: ASUS PN5-E SLI, E8200 Core2Duo, Zotac 8800GT, 4GB Corsai...

Re: 420W enough for E8200, 8800GT?

Then I would say go with a P35 board as well, the cheapest good one being the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L. Why do you recommend this board? Because without SLI I won't need the ASUS, and the Gigabyte comes in a bit cheaper, or is there another more important point that I missed? The ASUS seemed to have be...

Re: 420W enough for E8200, 8800GT?

That argument about SLI now or never has something speaking for itself. I guess I ll just stick to one 8800GT, I run a 1280*1064 display, and one should be able to handle that well enough. Especially as a second one would strain my budget, seeing that I d also have to invest more on the PSU front. S...

Re: 420W enough for E8200, 8800GT?

Seems I can't "really" know till I try it out. Anything speak against trying it out with the old PSU, and if it don't work I can still get a new one? I m not sure if I have 2 12V rails, how to find out without software (don't know if i want to buy something just for that reason, any freewa...

The 12V Rail is 18A - should that be enough?

Re: E8200 vs E6750 (or even E6600?)

So as I understand it, the E8200 really beats the E6750 in each respect, given it's the same price. I think I ll go for the E8200, in fact. The Q6600 runs at only 2,4 GHz, and I understand that most of my games (which is what I use it for) can't really benefit from the extra two processors, plus it'...

420W enough for E8200, 8800GT?

Hello! I am upgrading: My new build includes a E8200 (since I can't get the E8400, and I need to build quickly as I already sold my old config), a Zotac 8800GT 512MB, ASUS P5N-E SLI, 2GB of RAM, I am also keeping my old DVD-ROM and DVD-RW, so that's two more power consumers, and now the question is,...

E8200 vs E6750 (or even E6600?)

Hello! Seeing I won't be able to snatch a E8400 anywhere (they re very out of stock, and I m in a hurry, cuz I sold my old system and need a new one), I am thinking what to buy otherwise. As the subject says, E6750 or E8200, they seem to be similar in prize, and it seems the E8200 beats the E6750 in...

second 7900GS to SLI, or new 8800 card?

Hello! I am planning an upgrade that will take my system to something along the lines of what TR is suggesting in its Sep 07 system guide: Processor Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Motherboard Asus P5N-E SLI Memory Corsair ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-667 Now I still have of course my good old Palit 7900GS...

Another question to this topic: What about the motherboard? I guess it would be wise to choose a nForce 4-4x chipset option, rather than a nForce410/GeForce 6100 combined one. But as for manufacturers, any hints there? I hear that the ASUS K8N4-E SE ( http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=14...

Performance wise, how would a 7600GS AGP and a 7800GS AGP compare with a 7900GS PCIe or a 7600GS PCIe? The only option that's really a bit cheaper is the 7600GS AGP - it comes at EUR 155,- . The 7800GS AGP comes at EUR 300 - that will hardly be worth it, will it? In that case, if I get the PCIe opti...

Thanks for the quick replys. It's OK for me to discard the Mainboard with the next upgrade, as I consider it a "new-graphics-card-annex", just 50 Euros extra that the graphics card costs. So looking at it as it may be, if I buy the K8N-E Mainboard and the 7900 gs card, there really should be a notic...

Good value for money graphics update

Hello! 2 and a half years ago I bought a fairly sweet system, and I am kind of reluctant to accept that by now it's not so sweet anymore. Still it seems I ll have to upgrade a bit to play the newest games (eg Medieval 2) smoothly, and therefore I want to upgrade the essential bits on a tight budget....
