I've just taken the plunge too. So far I'm not particularly satisfied or dissatisfied. Seems very much like XP with a few tweaks and new interface to me. One plus point was not having to be messing around with SATA drivers.

Ok, another question. I've looked around and there don't seem to be any drivers for the P965 chipset for Vista, is this because the integrated drivers are as up to date as possible? The only drivers I've installed since Vista are for my 8800GTS, which came via Windows Update. Just wondering if I nee...

In the end I decided to try Vista for a bit. I'll need it eventually for DX10 anyway. I burnt myself an integrated SP2 XP cd tho just in case I need to go back!

Ok guys, done my build and got a couple of things. Firstly my SATA HD is only recognised as 127Gb which I hear is a common problem with original Windows XP. In computer management I can see the unallocated space. Is it best to just make a new partition out of this additional space or use partition m...

CPU-Z says channels: single which is what made me think I should have them different slots. I also found the timings just as you replied but thanks :-) I noticed there are some extra timing settings as well in that menu, how do I know what they should be set to? Thanks.

Ram timings on Asus P5b-E Plus

Hi guys Just got this board with a couple of 1Gb Corsair PC6400. CPU-Z says I'm running 5-5-5-18 on them but they're rated at 4-4-4-12. Does anybody have any idea how to change this in the Asus bios on this board as I can't find it? Also I have both DIMMs in Channel A, one in yellow the other in bla...

I have finally ordered. Had more cashflow issues lol.

I went for the Corsair PSU and RAM in the end, and also took advantage of the Intel price cuts. I await delivery! Then time to remember how to install an OS.

Had more of a look around on cases, the Thermaltake Tsunami Dream also looks a good buy and is a tad cheaper. I'm only really considering cases with doors, as I prefer them, and its often a pain trying to match your optical drive to the case color.

Almost finalised :-)

Cheers for all the replies.

Don't suppose anybody has used the GameXStream PSU and has any thoughts on it?

The problem with Corsair here is that there seems to be quite pricey over the likes of OCZ, GSkill and GeIL.

I'll take a look at some more cases I think.

I notice a lot of people doing well with GSkill RAM, not too many with GeIL. Maybe I should consider the GSkill.

I can get a bundle with the DS3 (also with GeIL) instead of the AB9-Pro for the same money. Would you say that is a better deal? I may just bite the bullet and get the P5B-E Plus though.

I think I may plump for the extra wattage on the OCZ psu also...

IMO if you're going for an E6400, you might as well save some cash and get a E6300. The loss in cache from a E6600 to an E6400 is a minimal performance loss, the clock speed is the main hit. If you're willing to step down to the E6400, then the E6300 with the same amount of cache should overclock to...

Consensus seems to be the Asus P5B-E, or Gigabyte P965-DS3. The Abit AB9-Pro also has good reviews but I've not seen many people recommend it.

Hey Flying Fox, thanks, that Antec looks quite nice too. Some decisions to make here. I had looked at Corsair's unit which you mention and it seemed good value, I wasn't sure whether 520W would be big enough though as I am tempted to get a PSU which will last me through more hardware renewals than j...

Thanks Shintai for your comments. I aim to game, with some of those being processor-intensive and others being graphics-intensive.
