Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

OK duders. I don't mean to be pedantic, but can you please not say Macbook when you mean Macbook Pro (or Macbook Air for that matter)? They are two very distinct things. Of course there is usually context to discern which you're talking about, but not always and at times even then the two share some...

Re: NFL 2018

The home team in these overseas matchups are required by the NFL to keep their stadium available (eg no booking concerts etc on the date) precisely for contingencies like this. It's never really a neutral site game; it's a home game played elsewhere (the home team has one less game played in their ...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

I only linked a Windows laptop because there's no equivalently spec'd Apple alternative for anywhere near that cost. The point is, a laptop with those specs can be made for that price, regardless of which OS is installed on it. It's not my fault that Apple chooses to ignore the market segment I'm i...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

Sorry I just don't have a lot to contribute here since I don't have experience with MBPs and I don't want to persuade anyone into Apple/Windows, but I'm flabbergasted by how much people pay for a laptop. Are you sure? Because that's basically what you just did. Lobby for people to use Windows machi...

Re: NFL 2018

I wasn't commenting on WHY they moved it in the first place. I could care less about that part. The second part though, about it being a home game for LAR, makes more sense now. I don't know where the "neutral" site would be, but I'm sure they could fill it up for the most part. Hell, do i...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

It is worth it if you get the newest MacBook Air. Simply put, Apple has decreed that everything shall be TB with USB3 connectors. That means dongles for just about everything else. That may not necessarily be a bad thing if you get the right dongles and keep it with you. Spec out the best MacBook A...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

Unless Apple is willing to reverse the decisions they're making, buying an older machine is just prolonging the inevitable. Is that worth buying a 3-year-old machine for? The 2015 MBP may be repairable by 3rd party repair shops, but these shops are being forced out of business by Apple right now. I...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

...except for Ethernet. If you want wired network connectivity you need either a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter, or a USB NIC. For when I'm at my desk, I have a combo USB 3.0 hub/NIC... external keyboard, mouse, and wired network stay plugged into it, so I can "dock" the MBP by plugging ...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

So yes, that con list is about what I feel like as well. Say with this laptop. When the battery finally gives out, I can order a new one, swap it out myself, and boom, back in business. I'm just finding it quite difficult to justify spending $1,500 on a new laptop, then $100+ on adapters and dongle...

Re: Modern Macbooks...really worth it?

IMO, the upgradability isn't the real issue these days. They put decent enough parts in their machines that I can live with that. Just spec it out how you want from the jump. It's going to be pretty expensive. You just have to know that and be OK with it. The ports. So, I've used at 2017 rMBP at wor...

For a bit of juxtaposition, TES V: Skyrim was released 7 years ago yesterday.

(also in case anyone was wondering...
Morrowind - 01/05/2002
Oblivion - 20/03/2006)

TES 3 -> ~4 years -> TES 4 -> ~4.5 years -> TES 5 -> 7+ years and no expected release date for TES 6

Re: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB - $119 @ Microcenter

I try not to anticipate these things beyond a few months as a general rule. It's generally just not worth the effort since so many things could happen in the course of a year to affect the release date or street pricing of X component. I suppose you could use one of those price tracking sites and t...

The 1TB model has correspondingly dropped to $227.99. I looked up the price trend of the 1TB model on Amazon and wow, it was selling for ~$399.99 on July. 21st. That's one heck of a drop in 3.5 months!

~230 bucks for a 1TB 970 EVO is pretty amazing, even if you hate Samsung.

Meh. My 840 EVO is still chugging along swimmingly. Nothing mission critical on it, and it's working just fine. If you want the best drives, and are willing to spend the money, the top tier Samsung drives are the way to go. Unless of course you want to go Optane, but that's another ball of wax that ...

Google is definitely the best at recognizing language though. (note that I didn't just say Google Translate) There are always going to be differences though. Language is innnnnnnncredibly nuanced. W10 Pro bug: Welcome to W10 Home!

smh Microsoft. I have had W10 Pro activated on my machine since, quite literally, release day. Today I get a notification that my copy of Windows 10 Pro is not activated! What?! So I google it and apparently there is an activation bug making the rounds telling W10 Pro users that they don't have a Pr...

How many displays are connected? I've had issues with multiple displays on Windows in the past, but not on W10. Kinda shocking about the RAM issue.
