I predict Brady will throw, run, and kick for a score and win the Superbowl by a score of :: Brady - 52 v Philly - 3. All hail Tom Brady.

Re: Microcode update killed my CPU or just corrupt BIOS?

FWIW a BIOS/UEFI update did not kill your CPU period. The chances of that are so tiny it's hard to put into words. Try clearing CMOS and flashing stuff again following the directions precisely as Asus has laid it out.

Re: Headphone market for 2018: Hot mess

The removal of headphone jacks from phones is unnecessarily hostile and idiotic. Apple, Google, Motorolenovo, and whoever else deserve the blame. I have a SUPER hard time believing that having that 3.5mm jack would cause Apple to vastly change the design of their precious iPhone X by a margin that m...

Re: Your Personal Smart Phone Evolution

I still miss the stock ringtones on the One S. I thought HTC's sound effects were the best, which might sound weird, but the ringtones and notifications on my Pixel are definitely lacking. No, I totally get that. Every time I get a new phone I scour the internet for ogg versions of past ringtones a...

Re: Your Personal Smart Phone Evolution

Baffles me how anyone could WANT to stick with Sense UI over stock Android. Honestly baffling. Since the HTC 10 is practically stock android what's the difference? HTC dumped the custom apps for stock Android and went back to a nearly default UI. While I will totally admit I haven't used sense in a...

Re: Why I'm Suspect of RAM Prices

RAM prices are part of the reason I'm still running an increasingly long in the tooth AMD FX system. Moving to anything more modern would mean all new RAM since I can't re-use the DDR3 I've got on hand. You might be able to set up a Skylake system with DDR3, it wouldn't be too out of date even now....

Re: iPhone slowdowns with subsequent iOS updates

Is it possible to mail it in or something? I *have* to have work phone (which is an Apple one? The really small one? lol I can't even remember the model--just got it recently) 24/7 anyway, so effectively I can use my personal S4 as loaner. I could make that work, I'd have to, there *needs* to be a ...

Re: Ryzen's Standings Jan 2018

Isn't Ryzen+ socket compatible with current Ryzen? It'd be worthwhile to upgrade to AM4 and just plop in a new CPU when they come out if you really need to upgrade right now. I'm personally kinda meh about the CPU space right now. I have a 6700K that runs at 4.5GHz without topping 75C and I just don...

Re: Why do USB connectors (almost) never fit well?

Doesn't the USB-C standard fix this problem? First, JBI was trying to point out that it in fact is not a "problem." Second, no USB-C doesn't "fix" that because USB-C and USB-A have the same makeup. A piece of a metal protruding from the plastic cord/adapter on the male end. Just...

I also tend to use my Roku and Apple TV more than any integrated smart features (we have Samsung and LG TVs in the house), but LG's webOS, particularly the more recent versions, isn't half bad considering.

Re: Touchscreen instead of touchpad

I’ll break with the crowd here. I think a touchscreen there is a great idea. For productivity apps, like office, Photoshop, etc. you would have the menus and buttons on the secondary screen and have the entire main screen for your work. Games would work the same way, where you have one screen for y...

Re: Touchscreen instead of touchpad

Yeah this does not sound like it's something I'd want. At all. I just don't see the point honestly. Everything you could put on that screen you could put on the main screen in some place (albeit possibly in a menu, but still). As others have said, I don't think looking down at that touchscreen is go...

Kinda surprised that you were surprised by that Ludi. As much as it sucks, Apple did what I would have expected from any of the phone makers if they found a third-party battery inside.

I should have qualified my statement, though I thought it was somewhat clear from what I said, in that I don't think people should be buying plasma at this point. If you're getting a "new" TV it shouldn't be plasma in 2018.

Any reason to stick with Plasma now that OLED is mainstream? It's been a few years now. Any reports to suggest the panel degrades quickly? It does raise an interesting point, what's the earliest generation Intel can make the hardware changes in? Cascade Lake this year? Intel elected to not make the changes in Coffee Lake nor Sky-X so it must not be a quick fix. No way. We're looking at likely a multi-year hardware solution. Intel said...

I have had a R7800 for a good while now. It's probably the best single router on the "consumer" market IMO. There isn't a whole ton you need to do. Make sure to update the firmware before you do anything (not that it will reset the router or anything, but it'll just make things easier). - ...
