Re: 1440 Monitor Upgrade

I can't really speak to the QC except anecdotally. My particular panel has pretty low bleed, and I haven't noticed any dead/bright pixels so I was pretty happy. I'm not necessarily sure how the Acer stand might be better, other than taking up a bit less space. The Asus stand is nice and sturdy. No i...

Re: 1440 Monitor Upgrade

I might end up going with the Acer variant which is 144Hz, because it probably won't matter much. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0173PEX20/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Yeah, it's the same panel. The Asus is just overclocked to 165Hz. If I'm being honest though, I never eve...

I'm not going to go into great detail but the menu for tomorrow includes: Turkey (brined) Gravy from delicious turkey mess Ham (because turkey mostly sucks) Dressing (haven't decided yet, but have some crusty bread at the ready) A delicious broccoli salad similar to this one Mashed sweet potatoes Ba...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I will have to try those, thank you. In the past I've done apple pie crust with half the butter replaced with bacon drippings. That turns out beautifully, a great smokey flavor to the crust. Can't do it for this holiday, though, brother-in-law is vegetarian. My brother and his girlfriend came over ...

PG279Q owner here (with a 1080) and couldn't be happier. Well, I could, if the price of the monitor wasn't ~800 bucks when I got it. Whatever. 120Hz+ at all times is the best.

Also, wtf is going on with the AFC West? No one wants to win there lately. Here you take it! No, you take it!

If you get this far in C/C++, let me know if you feel the same way after you learn another language that does things for you.

I have one and l have loved it, but when I updated to 8.1 it's feeling a little sluggish compared to 8.0, which felt blazing fast. my google launcher seems to be acting up, and it routinely crashes after I type a few characters- this only seems to happen if I start typing characters, if I swype it'...

Re: iMac Pro includes the A10 Fusion

The T1 iirc was something similar to the OG Apple Watch SoC? A10 Fusion is decidedly more capable, and I'm sure will be used for a lot more than hey Siri. The Apple T1 chip is an ARMv7 SoC from Apple driving the Touch ID sensor of the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro.[89] The chip operates as a secure enc...

No, not really. 7870 is supposedly 175W. 1080 is 180W. Your current PSU will be fine.

Man, I've been meaning to get my Schiit on, and that Jotun would have been perfect- picked up a pair of JBS LSR305 in white to go with my Cryorig Taku, but wound up grabbing a Topping DX7 off of Massdrop for US$319. Same basic idea I guess, and I could try out my HD600 and others with balanced cabl...

Yeah, Kougar can hate all he/she wants, but I like my H80i (can't remember which version it is tbh). It works great and keeps my 6700K under 30C at idle all da time. I have zero issues with the CLC itself. I'm picky so I installed some Noctua fans on it and it's wonderful. Also, I am not even close ...

I CANT TELL HOW VEGA IS BECAUSE THAT SITE IS IN SOME WEIRD FRENCH German. The ".de" TLD is Germany. And if you'd use a modern browser, there would be a "Translate" button for you to click. There's not one for me in Chrome, which is weird. Look up in the address bar on the right h...

Re: GCC errors with compiling C code.

Oh the maddening Big O notation. We had to seriously focus on Big O in "Discrete Structures." One of the hardest classes I have ever taken. You had to have had at least a year of C++ first as well as Cacl 2 (of the engineering variety). This is how they describe it at my school. Mathematic...

My beef is I want to choose when it's authenticated and when it's not. I feel like the fingerprint authentication system was perfect. I feel like the second-gen touch sensor in the 6S Plus and my wife's 7 Plus (edit: and in my Pixel 2, for that matter) just can't be topped. I touch the sensor when ...

Eh, as someone noted on the front page comments to the 5T summary, these guys have extremely thin margin selling a device this way. A second model solely for the US market (which has been one of the last to go to the BYOD/pay-up-front model) and additional licensing fees to Qualcomm is probably bey...

Yeah, your programming classes aren't going to teach you exactly how to code every situation. What they SHOULD do is teach you how to problem solve and how to approach problems by using programming techniques.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to give you crap or anything Vhalidictes. I didn't think Circuits or Emag were easy. Just that we seemed to be in a similar situation during college. I'm sure a lot of people in CS/EE/CoE go through a similar situation.

My CS undergrad started with Pascal, switched to C, and then switched again to C++, this was Penn State from 95-97. So maybe file handling got lost somewhere in the mixup. The program was generally sub-par (sad because the profs seemed good), and if degrees other than CS had existed back then I wou...

Thanks to this thread, I finally got an answer to a question I've had since the middle of learning C++ syntax. This has to be simple stuff. I guess it's the classic problem of not being able to explain the question. If you're interested what I found: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/5868246/outp...
