Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I was raised on a Model M, and had them in schools for my early years too. In the 90's though, everyone went membrane and it was awful. I got my first mechanical keyboard (read: Cherry MX switches (btw blue or bust)) in 2010 and haven't looked back. I loved buckling spring back then, but the conveni...

Re: Wow, I have an IBM Model M (or do I?)

Both of these keyboards are barely dirty! The clicky keys are delightful. I miss the feedback these old keys give. What a racket, though! Honestly thought you made this thread because of the review on the front page today. You know you can still get buckling spring keyboards today, right? https://t...

Re: Wow, I have an IBM Model M

I'm looking through some bins that I had stored from years ago and it looks like I have an honest to goodness Model M keyboard! It still has the original connector on it. Is it worth keeping it in pristine condition or should I modify it for USB? Just leave it. Worth more with PS/2, likely. Though ...

Re: Computer cannot connect to network

Ooof. Is there some Dell software trying to handle the connection? I find those type of programs often cause more issues than they really solve. Also, is this a PCI/PCIe card? Maybe try reseating it just to be extra sure ("reseat" it regardless of what connection it has IMO). In any case (...

Re: How to reset no boot W10

Reinstall from scratch. It's the easiest method to ensure you don't have trouble in the future. Also, stop screwing around with things you don't understand unless you have a good backup strategy first. :) The reason I have suggested this multiple times now is the OP deleted the system and recovery ...

Re: Good speaker for ZxR

I mean, a DAC is a sound card, it's just not inside your case. You can honestly look at them as the same thing for most PC purposes, except for the fact that you can move the external DAC around easier than having a PC always with the internal soundcard. Under 200 for speakers when you spent 200+ on...

I clean installed W10 Pro-v.1607 on 100GB partition in 250GB SSD. I do not remember whether the partition was created before the installation or during the installation. I really hope they don't push the TDP too far off the 1080. The 1080 is such a great card with a wonderful mix of power consumption and performance. Honestly I think it's one of the best products Nvidia has ever released. Nvidia. HDMI 2.1 (with VRR) or you will have me at least considering AMD (or I...

Re: New monitors besides the $2000 4K 144Hz ones coming soon?

I'm in the 1440p 120Hz+ advocate camp. I don't really care about 4K to be honest, at least not on my PC with how much GPU grunt it takes to power games. My perfect monitor, at least at this point in time, would be as follows: 1440p (2560 pixels of the vertical variety) 120Hz (144 is fine, but 120 IM...

Dang. I know it's not ideal, but would dragging and dropping work for you? For instance, have a shortcut to VirtualDub on your desktop and drag and drop your files onto it to start the app and queue the file. I'm just not certain there is any real way to customize that open with list to your liking ...

Re: How To Edit File Type Context "Open With" List?

Are you just wanting a single default for .avi files? Just right click one in explorer - properties - Opens with - then set your .exe there. edit: I mean, honestly, so long as the program you want is in that first list this is a non-issue IMO, but that's just me and I understand the nagging of it. You definitely need to factor in vision to this though. Some people just won't benefit from a 4K screen on a 15" laptop because (myself included) they can't read anything that small from a reasonable distance, but thisssssss is where scaling comes into play and is OH SO lovely. My rMBP is 2560x...

Re: Fiber optic vs cable

You'll likely get marginally lower latency for some things, but I doubt you'd notice the difference otherwise. I actually don't love the "modem" and "router" options with FTTH that are offered now. Some providers require you use their equipment as it stands and....no thank you. I...
