Re: Looking for Prosumer mirrorless

(Note: everything I list here is APS-C) Sony A6300, and if you wanna get spendy you can up it to the A6500. Unfortunately Sony doesn't have THE BEST lens selection, but there is enough for what you want to do. Fuji X-T2 and X-T20 are another option. Canon is going to have infinitely more lens select...

Yeah, the one from the Vega review is http://www.qksrv.net/links/1800524/type/am/https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZW5F71608 which doesn't seem to work. Maybe Newegg changed the product ID. Not really sure what product TR was linking to. Best guess is this one. The images you pos...

Re: Help Picking New Router

DPete, I tried sending you a PM (a couple times) but it doesn't appear to be going out? Lemme talk to Bruno and see what's up. Just didn't want you to think I was ignoring you. A PM sits in your outbox until the recipient has read it. Ahh. That's an...odd behavior. I've never seen a system that act...

Re: Help Picking New Router

Having seen what exactly is on your network I think an Asus RT-AC66U or RT-AC68U/RT-AC1900 or a Netgear R7000 are going to be the best solutions. Any of these are going to be able to select whatever channel you want for 2.4 and 5 at any time without issues. You're pushing your budget a bit, but seei...

Sorta cool. But does it still not let you control when updates happen? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Doesn't say anything. It feels like they'd allow you at least the same controls Enterprise has? I have no idea. Also, let's not turn the thread into a W10 update hate-fest if we can avoid it. Saying it doesn't let you ...

Have another PSU to try?

My guess would be PSU and motherboard, in that order.

W10 Pro for Workstations

https://blogs.windows.com/business/2017/08/10/microsoft-announces-windows-10-pro-workstations/ Should make more than a few TR people happy. Hopefully doesn't cost a ton, and they allow upgrades from Pro/Home. (AT LEAST pro though) Highlights: ReFS (not clear WHERE ReFS support is though) NVDIMM supp...

The 3TB HGST Deskstar NAS drives I have been using, and put in many more systems have had zero complaints. Honestly, I'm not sure i've ever even heard mine.

They have 4/6/8 TB versions as well.

Just try one out. Find a re/e-tailer that allows 30 day returns or something (cough cough Amazon).

Re: Can a 144Hz display help reduce eye strain?

My experience is as follows... Dell U2410 (60Hz IPS) + Dell U2415 (60Hz IPS) 2011-2016 Asus PG279Q (165Hz AHVA/IPS) 2016- Present I enjoyed both setups, but I won't oversell the regular desktop smoothness. It's not nothing, but I won't sing praises of regular desktop use at 120/144Hz. It's great, if...

Re: Streaming frustrations

Nah, that's how it works for me too Waco. Throughout the house, AC/5GHz works better nearly everywhere. Once I'm out back on the patio or something I might switch over to 2.4. Really though, at least for me, 5GHz in my house is almost always faster even with a weak signal.

Re: Skylake X: Bye Bye Rings, Hello Mesh

It's a brand new platform Krogoth... Saying their platform is stable because it was 8 years ago with completely different chipsets, CPUs, and manufacturers makes no sense. But OK. And if we're going to compare this to K8/Operton days, Intel isn't in "serious trouble." In 2006, Opteron/AMD'...

Pretty good server article over at Anandtech intel-skylake-ep-vs-amd-epyc-7000-cpu-battle-of-the-decade Promising results for EPYC too. AMD's is offering more cores at lower prices and still winning a lot of the benches. :) Yeah, unfortunately for AMD though, the server space isn't quite as forgivi...

Sure, I could be more selective. But that would involve whittling things down a LOT, and I'd be constantly going, "Hmm, I haven't listened to X in a while... oh damn, that's not on the phone!" I get it. This is what happens to me once in a blue moon. I don't mind switching stuff out thoug...

I didn't see anyone post die size yet?

It appears the die (Vega only, no HBM) is roughly 25.90mm x 19.80mm = 512.82mm-ish. (almost cut off a sig fig)

Vega is definitely not just a die shrink of Fiji.

Even though the FE stuff hasn't been amazing yet, I still think we're looking at above 1070 in most stuff, about 1080 in some others, and maybe above 1080 in a few particular things where Vega excels. When is RX launch?

You should really try and come up with the money for Lightroom. It's going to be so so so so so much less hassle than the others, if the others even do have some features you want.
