Re: Maximum GPU for 400W PSU?

Do some modern cards require 2 6-pin PCI-E power connectors? My PSU only has one. You can get a molex -> PCIe adapter at any store. Most cards bring an adaptor though. The 4850 that was mentioned only requires one. Nevertheless, even though your PSU is now 3 years old, you should be more than OK, t...

Maximum GPU for 400W PSU?

I have a FSP 400W PSU with two 12V rails at 18A\16A and one 6 pin PCI-E connector, currently powering an ATI Radeon X1950XT 256MB. What is the fastest card I could upgrade to from my current setup without changing my PSU? Thanks a bunch.

Just out of curiosity, how did you have to get stitches over the eye if you were wearing a helmet? Was it not a full face?

Re: Copperhead bite

Yea. That sucks, better than if it was a cottonmouth though. When I was home at my parents in Arkansas, my dad and I found 5 copperheads around our house and shop in a period of about 2 weeks. It pays to be pretty careful in areas you know they are out and about in.

Re: Software RAID 1

Hrmm. I may just decide to backup important stuff on the second drive and forgo any kind of RAID until I get a new motherboard. It seems to be quite a hassle to get going. Also, after reading the two articles it seems like you can't set up the array without losing everything that is already currentl...

Software RAID 1

So until about 5 minutes ago I was running RAID 1 with two 160GB WD RE drives on my Asus P5B-VM with a a Jmicron JM363 RAID controller. I had finally narrowed my various program stuttering, lag, and wierd issues with large files down to my RAID setup. Afterdoing some research I found I'm not alone w...

Thanks for the thoughts Voldenuit. I'm suprised that Intel ended up with virtually no improvement from G33 to G35 (even G965 really). That's interesting. If upgrading CPU's I would definately grab one of the newer E8xxx series for sure, I forgot they were coming so soon. I actually had XP x64 instal...

Thanks for the reply. I figured the timings wouldn't do much either so thats what I'll stick with until I hear different. Thanks for your input.

RAM timings vs clockspeed

I'm doing a mild OC on my E6300 PC this morning and am currently running at FSB:RAM 1:1 or DDR2-533 at 300FSB for 2.1 Ghz or so. I'm running my DDR2 800 at 4-4-4-12 at 300 FSB and am wondering if I would get better performance at 5-5-5-15 at around 375 ram clock if I changed the FSB:RAM divider to D...

UPS

Wasn't sure if I should put this in the power supply forum or not but here goes. I'm looking for a reasonably priced and reliable UPS to power my Core 2 Duo box with a 400W PSU along with a 20in LCD for maybe 15-30 min. What brands and models should I be looking for? The only UPS I've ever used was ...

Just wanted to let you know I solved the problem. It was indeed a windows issue confirmed by the fact that the drive worked fine in my buddy's comp. I then proceeded to basically copy over every .dll and .sys driver file from a working dvd drive to replace my corrupted versions. It worked and my dri...

I've played with it a bit changing detection to a CDROM drive and then back to Automatic and vice versa but with no real effect. The BIOS detects the drive fine regardless. Also, since the burner and my main hard disk are on the same controller I don't think it is a bigger problem with the controlle...

I here you. I've been trying to force windows into installing it fresh by just uninstalling the device in the device manager. The drive is detected in the BIOS fine and I'm almost certain that this is a windows issue as the drive worked fine just a couple of days ago. Also, I'm running XP 32 bit so it's not something to do with 64 bit windows. I'll try the live cd or some other boot cd and see if it works. Any other though...

SATA DVD burner driver failure

So I don't know what I did or what happened but somehow my device drivers for my Lite-on SH-16A7S DVD burner have been corrupted or lost. As a result I can no longer use the drive in windows. I've tried removing the device and rescanning to no avail. All windows tells me is that I have the best driv...

This is what I was looking at for a possibility.

E2140 1.6Ghz $88
Kingston 2GB DDR2 667 $65
FSP 400W PSU $40

$194 plus shipping and my Asus P5B-VM 965G motherboard. I figure if they really need the extra hard drive or cd drive I can always find a cheap IDE-SATA adapter.

:) Technically I don't. :( The P5B-VM only supports those two devices and their computer has 2 IDE cd drives and two IDE harddrives. It just comes down to, do they really need the extra hard drive or CD drive or not. I think they can survive without it based on the performance increase.

Doh! I totally forgot that card was still AGP. I'm pretty sure they could live with a modern motherboard's integrated graphics no problem. Also, it's the P5B-VM (I currently have it in my system) and I just thought of a great idea. I think I'll give them my motherboard so I can upgrade to a G33 chip...

I'm not really attached to anything but I figure I could probably carry over the hard drives (80Gb is plenty for their usage) and I figured the 9600 Pro would still be quicker than most integrated solutions.
