Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Well i got a mountain bike because i don't think i'll always have good pavement available, and i've had a decent amount of missed chances to ride some dirt trails so i might take advantage of that too. I've always used mountain bikes though so i don't know what luxury i'll be missing out on when it ...

I'm getting a folding bike for the truck. Right now my walking range is about 2 miles one way to get places on the weekend. Any further and I get too bored and if it's hot too sweaty. I'm hoping a bike will increase my travel range drastically but I won't really know until I try it out a few w...

Also just for the record, I'm pretty sure we're going to be more zerg like in the far future rather than protoss like. Organic devices are capable of taking care of themselves, and however long it may take, I suspect we'll be able to code organisms from scratch in the next thousand years or so. Why ...

I never thought jambalaya would be an on-the-go kind of dish, but it makes perfect sense when you think about it. Good jambalaya can be pretty damned awesome. I keep gigantic bags of white rice as well. Every so often a trucker gets stranded in the middle of nowhere for a few days, just being prudent. You have a way to cook rice in your truck? It's too nuty tasting to me. I prefer rice White rice is a blank slate. Brown rice is pretty nutty. I like brown rice, but it takes a long time to cook, and even uncooked it goes "off" in storage due to the inherent oil content (goes rancid). Ironically most of my calories these days come...

Re: The ultimate sump pump battery backup?

Yea but, the difference between a safe cutoff voltage to preserve the battery or maximum damage is only going to be a few minutes. Also I really would over shoot my expected required use on battery life. I guess it's debatable whether it's cheaper to use one battery and risk wearing it out faster, o...

Re: The ultimate sump pump battery backup?

The reason for the deep cycle batteries is so you don't need to replace them after just a couple of power outages. This may or may not be a serious concern, depending on how frequent the power outages are. I guess, but i would try to build a battery voltage cutoff into the systemv either way. It mi...

Re: The ultimate sump pump battery backup?

I don't know anything about these pumps, but Is there a reason you can't use a 12v pump. Without the inverter things become much cheaper and easier to implement. You mentioned the expected cycling nature of the pump. Would a smaller 12v pump running at a higher frequency be suitable? Then you could ...

Re: Bedbugs FTL

I did some more poking around and saw things like strategically placed sticky mats, including under furniture feet. Pretty smart, that provides some isolation of the individual furniture aside from it's use and can act as an indicator of infestation locations.

Might be easier to just burn the house down. But really, get a bag vacuum, and vacuum everything a lot, A LOT. manual defeat by physical removal is truthfully the only thing you've got. Killer NIC has been really great for me using my phone as internet primarily. On average i'd say i can expect a 1.2 megabytes down and a few hundred kilobytes up. Fluxuations and bad connections in certain places can get annoying, but killer does a pretty good job at keeping my netflix or web browse...

Finally installed a high endurance sd card that's twice the size of my old one in my dash cam. Hoping it won't surprise me with any failures. I also have a button to turn it off at night. I tried just unplugging it but I have some issue with fumbling around open high current sockets frequently.
