Re: GPU, RAM and MB upgrade

Thanks for the help guys. I'm not gonna upgrade the MB, and i'll look into sound cards.
For the memory, I'm thinking of buying the 16gb viper sticks and then just selling the 8gb i have now.
I'll save the 100 bucks from the motherboard and put it in the ryzen 3 piggy bank.

Re: Let's party like it's 1999 and look at single-threaded x87 FPU performance

Thanks for the Ryzen results. But I'm a little bit confused. I thought the Ryzen 5 1600 had a base clock of 3.2 GHz and a turbo of 3.6 GHz. (See AMD's product description: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-5-1600 ). Can you please clarify? Is this an under-clock and an over-clock? Or di...

Re: Basic Upgrade for failing system

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm not keeping this system for 7 years, i'll upgrade it in 2 years time. (or less, probably a new GPU next year) I've made my mind and i'm going with: Gigabyte GA-AB350M Gaming 3 Ryzen 5 1500X Patriot Viper Elite 8gb (2x4gb) 2400 For a grand total of $349.97 Really appreci...

Re: Basic Upgrade for failing system

Thanks for the input guys. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints I really need to choose between the 1500X or the 1600. I usually don't take this long to upgrade my systems. So between the two which one would you guys pick? My budget is $375 max for everything (forgot to mention that). I'm buying...

Basic Upgrade for failing system

Hello fellow gerbils! I'm starting to have some audio problems in my MB and instead of just buying an audio card, I was thinking of upgrading the whole MB, CPU, RAM, specially since this build is now 7 yrs old. The current build is: i7-870 P7P55D-Deluxe 8Gb RAM (4x2gb) DDR3 1600MHZ GTX 960 SSC EVGA ...

That's my point. Is there any improvements under the hood that make Win 8.1 better than Win 7? Specifically SSD-wise?

SSD upgrade and Win 7 / 8.1

Bought a laptop last year that came with Win 8 on it. As soon as I got it out of the box I formatted and installed win 7 ultimate. Now I'm getting a MX100 512GB to replace the 1TB HDD and i'm wondering if I should upgrade to Win 8.1. What do you guys think? I really like Win 7 but I know that Win 8....

Re: World Of Warcraft

The worst part is that this game has ruined almost every other game for me. I'm not sure I can explain how, but it's like nothing is as easy or intuitive or social. It's very frustrating. I agree...I tried Star Wars: TOR and it was close but just not quite there. I miss old school solo RPGs but tho...

In addition to what bthylafh and frumper15 suggested: 1. Have you checked whether there are any newer firmware versions available for that router? 2. What sort of things are these 10 users doing? Are they mainly using the router to access the Internet, or are they pounding on the local server? If i...

Re: Urgent Small Office Help

Don't know what your specific problem might be, but one thing jumps out at me: you shouldn't be running your router on channel 10. There are really only three channels you should ever use: 1, 6, and whatever the highest channel you're allowed to use in your country (13?). Roughly speaking, the othe...

OK, I did all that but the 1 min override is still taking precedence! If you read my original post, the situation is exactly the same as when I made the post. So that means I've tried everything everyone has suggested but it hasn't worked! So, even though it said, 'turn off display - 5 hrs', that i...

Re: CMD Problem

No, Windows 7. When I entered the command from the CMD prompt (i.e. not the shortcut like you said!), I simply entered the 300 min monitor timeout but it didn't work. In my display settings it says 'turn off display - 5 hrs'. So, obviously, this has been overriden by that initial command. Surely, i...

It's my first stop before heading to Whistler. 2. Some advice on some good boards brands. So far the recomendations h...
