Re: Something's different...

Producing quality video content takes time and money. Why not just make normal podcast videos? No need for special effects or editing. Just impromptu videos that glow with honesty. Even leave the bloopers in to make them fun to watch. They can start off small and progress to increasing length depen...

Re: Something's different...

Come on, guys. How about an estimate of TR's current value? $100k? $250k? I doubt it's anywhere near that much. The community has mostly moved on, there's no content, and rankings are falling every day. https://www.worthofweb.com/website-value/techreport.com/ $45k isn't bad. I suppose the current o...

PSU longevity question

Why is everyone recommending Seasonic? Is it because of the price/performance ratio? I remember reading that EVGA's power supplies provide super clean power so kinda confused why not even a single recommendation for EVGA.

10-bit color was one of the things that you used to need a Quadro for. Not anymore:

If your heads are spinning the drive is toast. Only the platters should spin.

I ordered one, on the theory that for $13 if I don't like it I won't feel put out. That's less than what I individually paid for my conventional Logitech F310 /and/ for the iBuffalo SNES controller. Do let us know your experience with it. Pretty solid "meh" so far. It's definitely meant f...

I suppose MSI will repair that? Or some third party? If the latter, would love to know how they do that. I mean, the trace looks pretty damaged. They will put in a new trace? Or bypass it with something like a trace cable?

Love that about AMD. They are a much more greener company than Intel on account of this. Probably saving the world from hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of unnecessary motherboards and the associated pollution.

Re: hardware

Which PSU? If you decide to go for the 580, better have a 500W PSU minimum just to be on the safe side to account for the 580's power cravings. https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-WHITE-Warranty-Supply-100-W1-0500-KR/dp/B00H33SFJU And yes, as per JAE's suggestion, 16GB ram is a good idea for a smoother comp...

If the price of the RX 570 is $140, spend $20 more for the RX 580 for better performance. (Already spending over a hundred bucks. Might as well spend the $20) https://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-1386MHz-Graphics-RX-580P8DFD6/dp/B06Y66K3XD/ https://www.techspot.com/review/1780-geforce-1060-vs-radeon-58...

Re: Starfalcon has built a new computer....not a joke

Yeah, I guess that's the difference. Most users, including me, aren't really using software that pushes the CPU's to their limits. Just out of curiosity, I ran a countif() formula in Excel on an office i7-4770 and an 8th Gen laptop i5. The 8th gen i5 saved about 9 seconds when the formula worked on ...

Re: Starfalcon has built a new computer....not a joke

I think what he's trying to say is that most people are fine with SB/IB and even though later generations have a noticeable speed boost, it's nothing earth shattering where you go, "OMG! I can't live without that!". I have a SB i5 at work and an IB i7 desktop and Haswell i7 laptop at home....

Re: Starfalcon has built a new computer....not a joke

Core i7-1068G7 seemed to be the most attractive in terms of performance and I was really looking forward to buying a decent laptop using this CPU. Unfortunately, it seems it may never see the light of day as it isn't even on Intel's ARK despite being announced.

Not to mention that going to space is an odd choice for a cancer treatment because of the increased radiation exposure. TCL seems to be the only exception to my gripe. I've been eyeing their 6 series for some time now, and while prices have fallen, it still doesnt justify replacing my last gen Samsung Plasma. Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I am a little surprised that they keep on with this, though. You'd think that adding in functionality to the base design probably increases the cost without really driving sales. Building a Roku-type add-on module (with a nice markup) is probably cheaper, AND they get to sell a high-margin accessor...

It's been discussed before but I have to voice it again. I am sick and tired of all the bloatware on so called "Smart TVs". Just give me a damn TV without all that software junk. If I want apps I'll add a Roku/firestick/some other device. Or all smart TV's should just adopt Linux as a sta...
