Re: Make frankenbot scary for halloween - 2008

I've moved my 8800GT, 2 laptops & HTPC over to TRFrankenbot.

I'm going to keep 1 laptop for myself, though.

Re: Does GPU memory matter?

It's up & going. I'll be curious if the 8800GS annoys my wife, as I was running a fanless 7600GT before. It is quite a bit louder. I may end up reverting back to the 7600GT. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!! Buy your wife a nice set of ear plugs. I was thinking my wife should b...

Re: Does GPU memory matter?

That's what I get for not looking in the box. Seriously, who does? I pulled the card out & was ready to go to work!

On a side question, is 300W enough for the 8800GS, 1 SATA HDD & a IDE DVD drive?

Re: Does GPU memory matter?

Thanks for the tip! At $85 + free shipping, I've pulled the trigger. My only concern is whether or not it'll fit in the case. But that's what saws and dremels are for, right? Hopefully it'll be up & going mid-to-late next week. Very cool. 8) Let us know how it works out. :D The good news: I've ...

Re: The CALL to ARMS. What's your contribution?

My contribution:

Athlon64 X2 6000+ with 8800GT - currently only the 8800GT is folding.
Pentium M 1.73GHz
Pentium M 1.5GHz
Pentium 4 1.8GHz
Athlon64 3400+ (which will be upgraded to the GPU2 client as soon as I get the 8800GS) - I just added this one yesterday.

Re: Does GPU memory matter?

You know you could grab one of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150276 It should do much better at folding. Yes, much better! :D Thanks for the tip! You want to fold with that... thing?

Edit: no, makes no difference.

It's better than not folding with it. ;)

Re: The CALL to ARMS. What's your contribution?

I thought I'd finally join in. I'm not dedicate 24/7 yet, as I need the temperature to drop so I can stand being in my office during the day. I've added a GPU client (8800GT), and I've got my old IBM T30 laptop running (not quickly, but quicker than not running), as well.

I've had a Samsung 46" DLP for a few years and have no buzzing whatsoever. I'd say it's probably a defect.

Re: M2N-E ram slots

They should go in A1/B1 (B1 is the slot closest to the CPU).

Edit: B1 would be the 3rd slot away from the CPU.

Re: Need a new Athlon X2 AM2 CPU Heatsink/fan

Thanks for the replies. I have been overheating, as the CPU has been getting up to 80°C and then BSOD. I'm 99% sure the stock heatsink/fan are installed correctly, as I've been doing this for quite some time. However, I am not perfect, and could've missed something. I'll double check it tonight. My ...

Need a new Athlon X2 AM2 CPU Heatsink/fan

I'm running the stock right now, and I'm overheating whenever I fire up CoD4. I'm looking for something that will work well, but not break the bank.

Mine still shows an estimated ship date of 17-DEC-2007 (which was delayed from 10-DEC-2007). I would think they'd be able to come up with accurate ship dates based on the qty of orders received and the qty of merchandise received each week. It's not rocket science.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit Install Question

I'm getting ready to install Vista, and I'm going to be booting off of a card that requires drivers. Does Vista still require a floppy disk, or has it advanced enough where I can use a CD or a USB drive?

I have the same thing happen on one of my machines. If I plug it in via eSATA, I have to initialize the drive in the Disk Management console (I'm running WinXP), but if it's on when the machine is powered up, it shows up automagically.

AB has a large minority stake in Goose Island, and they are still churning out good beers. While AB likes lowering expenses (what company doesn't?), I think they've realized a good beer sells well.

Are they still offering XP with the free upgrade to Vista? That will probably give you the best bang for your buck later on down the road.
