Re: Asus Zenbook UX305 and the new Macbook

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned about is the customer service you get from Apple, which is generally exceptional. Not only is their phone technical support extremely competent but they also have physical stores in a lot of cities. This means you can go in to one of their shops and, even if ...

Very weird problem with new build

I've just put together a new build and am having a problem which is quite bemusing. I'm trying to install windows using a usb dvd rom drive but for some reason it just won't work. The drive is able to be detected in the bios but it won't load the windows disc. I have used the dvd drive on 2 other co...

"Effective resolution"

I'm looking around to purchase a laptop and I notice some of them have very high resolutions like 2560 x 1600 or even 3200 x 1800. However, I keep seeing "effective resolution" and it's much lower than the stated resolution of the screen. What is this effective resolution? All I can think ...

Re: 2600K load temps - 65 degrees?

Running at 4.5Ghz with 65 degress loads temps is extremely good.

As a rule of thumb, anything under 70-75 degrees is perfectly fine.

Temps are 60c at idle? Is the fan spinning? Did you get all the dust?

Those are extremely temps, so I'd say your card is pretty much fudged.

No surge protection. Can't seem to find any scorth marks. Weird! Powersupply smells fine right now. I've had it for a while though, it may be the culprit.

Computer smelling of smoke! Help!

So about 10 minutes ago, I was just watching some videos on youtube when all of a sudden my computer turns off. Then after 10 seconds it turns itself back on and procedes to load the bios like nothing ever happened. However, there is now a distinct smell of electrical smoke permeating the air around...

Re: New to Java - Help please!

I think we have touched on it. Are you saying this is related to my question?

Edit:

I think I have found out how to do it. I need to use the arrayList.set() method. But there is still a problem, because that will change the whole element at the index. I just want to change the address field.

Re: OC on an ASUS Striker II Formula

Instead of using P95, use Intel Burn Test. That's what I use now: it's much quicker at stressing than P95.

Oh and looking around, it looks like you shouldn't need more than 1.3v to reach 3.6Ghz.

Everest seems pretty accurate for me.

RealTemp:

CoreTemp:

62 / 63 / 61 / 58

SpeedFan:

47 / 47 / 46 / ?

Core i7 3.6Ghz during Intel Burn Test.

Try CoreTemp and RealTemp. Everest is generally very good so compare results. Take the average and see which program comes closest.

Re: Lower temp at 3.6Ghz vs 2.66Ghz?!

What did you expect? Your making the cores work harder with HT, so more heat. I would leave that HT on for some games... What? You expect a chip to run hotter at 2.66Ghz than at 3.6Ghz? I would have thought an extra Ghz would cause more heat than enabling HT. Here's a pic: http://img14.imageshack.u...

Re: Lower temp at 3.6Ghz vs 2.66Ghz?!

So I switched HT back on then ran Prime95 again. Temperature shot up to 63 celcius after 1 minute. After it had been a rock solid 55 celcius.

Hyper Threading will be permenantly off on my CPU now. Highers temps and lower performance on games?? No thanks!

Yes it did. It showed 100% usage across all 8 threads. I might turn on Hyper Threading again to see what happens.

Re: Lower temp at 3.6Ghz vs 2.66Ghz?!

Yeah ambient temp was exactly the same. I just can't understand it. It could be the thermal paste I suppose...but surely bumping the speed up a whole 1Ghz should have increased the temp substantially.

Lower temp at 3.6Ghz vs 2.66Ghz?!

I ran Prime95 for 30 minutes on a stock Core i7 920 2.66Ghz and the temperature topped out at 56 celcius. Then I overclocked the CPU to 3.6Ghz, turned off Hyper Threading and left everything else the same. Then I ran Prime95 again for 30 minutes and it refused to go higher to 54 celcius. I can't ima...

Re: What core 2 motherboard is best for me?

I think I am going to go with the P5Q Premium reviewed here:

http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/p5q_prem/3.htm

I just really like the look of the layout: edge mounted sata ports.

Also overclocks very well according to the reviewer. A bit more expensive than I would like but oh well.

What do you think of the Abit IP35 Pro XE?

I can get one on overclockers.co.uk for £60/$85 which seems like a deal.

What core 2 motherboard is best for me?

I want to pair up a core 2 motherboard with a Q9550 and 8Gbs of (atleast) 1066mhz ram and a GTX 260 216. The board must overclock well. It must support the amount of ram at the speed I mentioned. Can't be too expensive. The board does not need to have any support for SLI or Crossfire. Doesn't need d...
