Re: Machine switch-a-roo

Thanks for the helpful info all! I currently have the DX2200. So there's no cost involved in giving it to my son. (It's been dormant in my basement for 6-8 months) His existing PC is a P4 dell that's got to be 5 + years old with integrated graphics. He's in to playing Spore, and some other cartoony ...

Machine switch-a-roo

My current home rigg runs (2) 8800GT's in SLI. I'm planning on upgrading to some new single 275 or 260 soon but I need to upgrade my son's machine in the meantime. He's getting a HP DX2200 computer. I googled around and found that it looks like this machine has a 775 socket. I was hoping to buy some...

Re: ESX 3.5 notfred VMapp

OK,

I just gave up and created a VM under ESX 3.5 and used the ISO generator to make a boot CD. That will work for now...

Re: The return

I do have a crusty CRT hanging around..., That's always an option. The 8800's have dual DVI's but I could use a DVI->VGA converter? I'd like to upgrade to something newer, but the home IT budget doesn't have the funds right now. Plus most of the games I play seem to be just fine on the SLI 8800's.

ESX 3.5 notfred VMapp

I recently used notfred's vmware appliance on a ESX version 4 server. Worked great, but that server is getting erased and version 3.5 installed on it. I tried using notfred's appliance on ESX 3.5 but it won't work. On ESX4 I just uploaded the contents of the folding.zip file, browsed the datastore a...

Re: The return

Good to be back. Thanks for the tips, I have a ESX test server at my disposal for a while, I got some questions about running notfred's virtual app, I'll post another question on that.

The return

of Druid/Nulfire has begun.... So I have (2) 8800GT's that are in SSL, the only way I can run the GPU client on them (two copies) is to have them out of SLI mode and have another screen attached? (So I've read online) Is this true? Also, the SMP client won't run in a service mode on Vista is that co...

It's dissapointing to see my 6 cores in production use now as email servers. Every once in a while the CPU usage on the servers go up to 20-30%. Otherwise it's 1-2% for 60-70 email users right now. Seems like a waste of CPU time. (and ppd). In two months we add another 100 users with lotsa FAT mailb...

Biggest PPD (BPPD)

What was the highest PPD for a user in here? I'm all about keeping the constant PPD going but I think we need a "Highest Points Per Day" record sticky. (No strange EOC bugs that report a crazy amount though) Just another way to step up the game here.. Nulfire and I Hit 17,677 on Saturday. ...

Yeah, I'm right there with ya. Only reason my Laptop even finishes a Windows SMP WU is that when it's not running right, my fan is on low. It's kinda and audiable alarm telling me the processor is cool and the SMP client has probably locked up. Restart the SMP Client and walla! It starts running aga...

Core 2 Duo @ 1.8Ghz Vs Pentium 4 945 @ 3.4Ghz

Running 2 non-smp instances of Windows consoles, which one would be better? I have to buy a machine to run as a kiosk at my company. 99.9 % of the time it will be on and idle. The .1% the rest of the time it will browse and internal intranet website. Can't run the SMP client becasue it doesn't run a...

Hey Jav400! Is there a substantial difference between a Q6600 and a QX6700? I ask because I am thinking of getting the Q6600 for my new PC build and I want to know if I can run one SMP client and get similiar results to yours. :o I got an input on another thread to use two SMP clients with a Q6600....

Leor your numbers are looking good, but I'm not sure you'll be surpassing Nulfire and I by next week. Those quad cores Xeon servers? Just wondering how 2 Xeons (3070 or 5140) vs a single QX6700 performs.
