Re: What cases and PSUs are you guys using?

I'm using two Cooler Master cases: the HAF 932 and the HAF XM. For PSUs I recently upgraded to two EVGA Supernova 1,300-watt power supplies (G2 series gold rated).

I'm using Asus's RT-AC3100.  It's good router, if a bit large.

I'm good with my Maxwell-based Titan X cards but I saw a 480 at one of the local Best Buys here in NYC.

Re: Swapping cases yearly

I have two Cooler Master cases-one mid-tower and the other a full-tower- that I've been using for the last four to five years respectively. It's difficult to find a case with the right combination of I/O ports, upgradeability, aesthetics and bling; as such I wouldn't swap my cases frequently. Beside...

Re: Anticipating not switching CPUs for a while

i agree i cant see me changing from my 3930k for a long time yet also i feel quite happy i grabbed a 2011 cpu instead of an 1155 cpu - so many people said 2011 was a ripoff when they released but im quite happy with my purchase and im glad i went 2011 instead of 1155 as i have -pci-e 3.0 (1155 is p...

I'm not planning on buying a 4K display in the near future. I just don't find them compelling enough.

I bought two of these cards for my boxes and have been pleased with them. The drivers are pretty solid and a Windows 8.1 driver is scheduled for release this month.

Remember to install the patches (1.2 & 1.2.1) after installing the game.

Re: Crysis 1 won't run on window's 8

Crysis will run under Windows 8 (and 8.1) but it sounds like you'll have to reinstall the game or the drivers for your graphics card. I had this problem before but it turned out that the OS had some rot so I wound up reformatting and reinstalling Windows.

Very nice card! Congratulations on being one of the first people I've heard of to buy it (reminds me of when I bought my first 3dfx-based accelerator way back in October of '96). Too bad the price is still a bit steep.

Re: 4770K ES Benchmarks Out

Seeing as how I've already upgraded both my boxes (rebuilt one actually) I'm going to pass on Haswell. It looks like a good CPU but I'm betting it's aimed mostly at people still running Core 2 processors and not Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge parts.

Re: Console vs. gaming PC

For what it's worth I prefer gaming on a PC. I've always played games on my computers and learned to build them to run certain games faster (Descent 2 comes to mind). Consoles are closed platforms that are best suited to platform-style games and fighting games whereas PCs run shooters, real-time str...

Re: Blu-Ray burner experiences?

I did buy a LiteOn Blu-Ray ROM a couple of 3 years ago that died after playing 3-4 retail discs. Yeah, I am so done with them. I used to prefer them because they were a great bang for the buck. But then a couple of years ago I went through a series of LiteOn DVD burners that all failed in various w...

LG's unit should serve you well. I haven't burned a Blu-ray disc with my drives yet (I have the 8X model) but for playback and general everyday use LGs drive's are rock solid. Since I recently bought Power2Go 8 I'm going to start archiving some files to Blu-ray and DVD (a good archive is always hand...

I have fond memories of firing up Descent on my old 486 back in December '95 and loving it. The Rebirth open source versions of Descent and Descent 2 are great also and they both run flawlessly in 64-bit Windows 7 and Linux. It's the reason I didn't finish grad school (ok I got lazy too) .

Re: Windows 7: 32 or 64 bit

Hi! Is there any advantage to installing Windows 7 64 bit on a machine with 2 GB RAM over the 32 bit version? Installing the 64-bit version of Windows 7 will provide support for more memory (greater than 4GB should you go in that direction later) as well as better security and stability. As long as...

I just thought about this: Razer's Onza controller. I've been looking at them and want to pick one up if I can find 'em in stock. They're sold out everywhere :( . That is a mighty fine-looking controller. And it's a 360-alike, so it'll work with all the PC games using the 360 controller. btw, Amazo...

My first discrete video card was ATI's PC 2TV board. It had a whopping 4MB of RAM and I bought it from Computer City back in '97. I used Orchid's Righteous 3D for gaming though.
