Re: Investigating a HTPC option

OK, I've got 2 HTPC: 1 in bedroom hooked to 22" TN panel 160x1080, C2D based Celeron, X4500 graphics. I get Netflix through wireless network, and analog cable signal. We also watch standard DVDs. My opinion is that the box could not handle bluray decode. 1 hooked up to 1080P Panasonic LCD in fa...

Re: New to PC's -- Friend wants to build me a "Beast" machin

Good luck on the build. To be a new guy with all the delicious new packaging, and everything about PC building so fresh and vibrant and new in your mind.

I get a bit envious when folks start discussing the latest hardware. Fortunately, it's a treatable condition. :D

Re: Post your Highest OC'

OK, so I've always read that better equipment makes for better OC'ing. Now I find that's true from a personal experience. I parted out a couple systems to finally deploy a Core i7 960 and 1366 mobo around xmas, and put together an HTPC. I had leftover the following: Asus P5K-E, skt 775 ValueRam DDR2...

Re: 6850 Triple Monitor Support Woes. What they don't tell y

Sorry about your woes. For a while, Sapphire was offering a 3-Eyefinity card that had an extra DAQ (I may not be using the exact correct terminology), so you could run 3 monitors where none were native DisplayPort, just a mix of DVI/VGA. I agree in some sense that the 6xxx series was falsely "r...

Re: Post your Highest OC'

Since neither are systems to brag about, everyone will have to take my word for it. Kiddo PC Foxconn G31MXK (or something like that - a cheap board), Celeron 440 stock 2Ghz, 2.66 Stable, no extra volts, stock Intel cooler from a C2Q, which mean the aluminum is a bit taller, whoop. Media PC Foxconn M...

Re: Would Vid card work worse on newer hardware?

There is a generic NV-authored driver released in 06/07 time frame. I got an 8400GS to drive the panel...definitely enough power for my needs. And pretty quiet, with a tiny fan. I think I'll keep the FX5200 in a desk drawer for those rare emergencies. It's not worth much, but is PCI and therefore wo...

Jackbomb...

Very insightful...XP on the old machine, VISTA on the new. You nailed it right there...now if I just had an unused XP key floating around. Or I turned off the Vista bloat.

Would Vid card work worse on newer hardware?

OK, I have been using some OLD hardware to watch HULU shows on a plasma TV, regular 480 resolution. Specs: HP 503N...2.8Ghz Netburst-Celeron/128kb/400Bus, 512Mem DDR-266, 845GL chipset. 2002-era machine and it sucked even then. But I changed over to a "new" rig based on pcs lying around: H...

Re: Can I use a P4 w/ HT (socket 478) in an old MB?

Since this is an old thread with only two posts, I'll post a related question. If no one answers, fine...if someone does, whoo hoo!! I have an old HP 845 chipset based computer that originally came w/ a 1.8 Ghz celeron (1.8/400Bus/128 Kb cache). Thinking I was smart, I bumped it up to a 2.0 Ghz P4 (...
