Re: Dell U2410 Rev01

I have one at work, and I've confirmed it is a A01 revision. I took it home last weekend and was so impressed that when it went on sale yesterday for $100 off, I bought! Probably the only issue I've had with it is at first, whenever I would open say .jpg files with the built-in Windows Photo Viewer,...

Re: Dell U2410 $100 off

Thank you for this post UberGerbil. Bought. I got to test drive this monitor at work 2 weeks ago, and then at home last weekend. I was very impressed, and also upset that I had missed the $70 sale that Dell had on this monitor a week ago. I vowed then to buy it as soon as it went on sale again; and ...

Re: disabling auto-arrange in win7

Have you considered using tags? You can add/remove them to many files at once using Windows Explorer, and this would allow you to sort your photos in other ways (size, date created, etc) and still with a few clicks get them back to your desired (focus, out of focus) sorting.

Re: Compressed Air

I have a 25 gallon air compressor in my garage, so my only cost is electric + the upfront cost of buying it, I don't remember how much it was. I have a few computers that I routinely clean out every 6 months due to the cat. After going through a few cans of air the first time I cleaned one, and need...

Re: disabling auto-arrange in win7

I'm going to assume you mean auto arranging desktop icons. If so, right click the desktop, pick "View>Auto Arrange Icons", make sure it is unchecked.

If this isn't what you mean, can you clarify a bit?

Edit: Ok, by your response, I'm guessing this isn't what you mean.

Although it probably isn't the cause of the problem, any reason you don't have Vista patched to SP2?

Check out ViceVersa and the ViceVersa Engine if you are into heavy automation. Google for it (company is like TGRMN iirc). There are trials for both.

Script to determine if connected to a specific VPN

Hello all, First off, sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum. If this is the case, please direct me to where this might be better posted. I'm trying to create a script (it can be in .vbs, .bat, .cmd or .js) to check if the computer is connected to a specific named VPN. This will be used in conjunct...

What are your system specifications? At my workplace, we have 2 year old laptops running Vista well, but it all depends on the specs.

This can sometimes be installed with some games. I believe when I played the UT2008 demo, it installed this.

Pretty sure both LOTRO and Crysis are OpenAL, which is usable by Vista for hardware accellerated sound.

Edit: Crysis just uses FMOD it seems, no OpenAL support.

It should be enabled by default. It's under Options>Advanced. Then go down to Formulas.

I think it is time for game developers to completely shift to OpenGL with MS locking DX10 to vista only. And, honestly, what is the problem with them (Microsoft) doing that? When DX10 and DX10.1 games are in their prime, Vista will most likely be the only choice to buy for newer Windows based syste...

Depends on the OS. Vista, by default, will be in "Balanced" mode, which will lower the voltage. XP on the other hand needs to be set manually.

Depends on what the driver is for. I'm going to assume you are asking about video card drivers (since you posted here). I usually do Download, Save, Uninstall old, Reboot, Install, Reboot. This usually works without issue. If I have any issues afterwards, I'll uninstall, then reboot and run a driver...

I thought RAID 1 was recording the same data on the two drives, so if one of the drives fail, you can still recover your data.. Isn't that correct? Your virus example applies for the External HD also, if you have a infected data on your External HD then what's the use? You are correct about what RA...

hmm..So no raid at all for backing up you are saying ? But isn't RAID 1 a safe solution? somethin inside me is sayin that you had a similar incident ? RAID 1 is for redundancy, not for backing up. If you got a virus, or had some other system catastrophie, RAID 1 won't save your data (unless that in...

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your issue, but we (the IT department I work with) have a similar setup. We use a server side filter that tags messages as spam, and then puts them in Outlook's Junk mail folder (this was not the default setting, we set it up as such). So, unless you setup the server so...

You can get HD Tach to work in Vista by running it in XP SP2 Compatibility mode.

Also, do you have the 2 Vista Reliability and Compatibility fixes? One of them addresses an issue with file transfer times.

The 27'' has a native res of 1920x1200, which would be easier to drive games with details turned up, while still having a pretty large display.
