Actually, my sound card is one of the last components needed for my PC. I built this PC about... well, a year ago. Wolfdale 3.0GHz processor, WD SATA HDD, 4GB DDR3, ATI Radeon 4870 video card. It was my intention to buy an X-Fi ExtremeGamer , which I actually have still bookmarked to buy. Then I hea...
heh, I always thought the rule was to have a page file twice the size of your RAM... or was it half the size of RAM.... hmmm. I usually leave it at it's default, but I can understand wanting to turn it off if it's taking up 6GB or more.
...so the only problem would be lack of physical media to re-install with after that happens.
The main reason I don't buy online games. They'd have to release software to kill the steam DRM and somehow burn the existing data to a physical media.
so...just how much beer is in a slab? I'm betting that a slab is a 24-can case in four 6-packs with a cardboard bottom tray. After a quick Google, it seems that a slab of beer is an Aussie term: http://www.aussiepubs.com.au/talk/ And yes, it's 24 cans. I think they just swapped the words accidental...
I tried following the thread, but it is too long for me today. I know this thread is about piracy and all that... but I just wanted to point out, there is something wrong when you can say "thank you for letting me play the game I paid $50 for!" and it actually be a legitimate response to a...
Doesn't look too old to me, considering I was going to buy a P35 board recently (decided against). Heh, I should consider updating my list of things to buy. A lot of that stuff you listed I honestly don't bother buying (or buy generic), so I can't form an opinion on them, but... are you sure you wan...
Hahaha, a weird coincidence happened. I installed irfanview and restarted, now it is missing a system file and won't boot. I guess this old HDD is showing it's age.
Tried linux with Xfce. Login is really slow, and X Windows doesn't load after login for some odd reason. ....I don't think I know enough about Linux to use fluxbox either. I'd prefer not to use 98se, since I've had some bad experience networking 98 (though not as bad as ME). I suppose I could load 2...
I've got an old computer here with a modern version of Windows. It's fine with just the OS alone, but adding things like Firefox and Microsoft Office slow it to a crawl. I know plenty of freeware programs, but I've never had to judge how big the program is, as I always installed them on powerful mac...
I was tinkering in the Local Security Policy because I'm trying to set up a personal server without login (another topic entirely). So, after looking around at all the settings, I can't find anything that looks like it will fix my problem. I come up with the idea to look at the policy of an existing...
Wasn't DRM removed from Bioshock? I can't recall. I believe it was. Eventually they will remove the install limit on their games once sales drop to a certain level. People are getting worked up over this for nothing. ...and if they don't? Isn't it obvious why people are getting worked up? Securom a...
I was so confused when I read this thread. At first I thought it was tech busting *cheating* spouses. Then after reading the post, I thought it was tech (bankrupting) spouses... only to read the rest of the thread and just give up. Are they being dropped? Spilled on? Does the broken equipment have a...
I think I want my money back. I was stupid to buy it. Mediocre gameplay, it keeps crashing, and now I'm afraid to reinstall it and fix the problem because I don't want to lose activations.
Good find! That's a pretty darn impressive price compared to a couple months ago. Edit: Hmm, that's funny, the price just jumped to $139.99. Newegg adjusts prices depending on demand, so maybe they saw a chance to make some more money. $100 for a Blu-Ray drive is pretty good... reviews don't say go...
The only two reasons to get discrete audio solutions these days are if you are an audiophile or an audio professional/enthusiast. Or, if you are like me and have no luck with onboard. I both agree and disagree with Krogoth. Developers don't want EAX obviously, and cross-platform is a very nice thin...
Ok, I was planning a new machine a little while back, and apparently things have changed quite a bit. I need some help figuring out what the best price/performance ratio hardware is. Seeing as I planned for a P35 board with a then unreleased Wolfdale processor and an 8800GTS, I'm.... behind, to say ...
I just finished playing D2, AGAIN... for the 50th time... about one or two months ago. I must say, I'm delightfully surprised that Blizzard was able to keep this under wraps for so long. I mean, really... what company can keep an idea out of the media in it's brainstorming stage, let alone the fully...
I thought Diablo II Expansion's ending pretty much wrap things up. Prime Evils were all defeated and the Worldstone which was heavily hinted as the source of all magic and the gateway to other realms in the mortal world got destroyed. It marked the beginning of age of man. Err... I thought DII's Lo...
Wow... I'm so behind. Last time I saw something AMD related, it was the 2900... which so many people said would beat an 8800. Stupid question, has AMD surpassed the 8800 yet?
Half-Life 2 is suppose to be registered with steam and launched from steam. Valve gladly gives free downloads for purchased products via steam, so there should be no need to download from other sources.
I suggest you remove anything you downloaded and use steam's version.
$60 for advertised 2mbit down, when in reality it's 480kbit... and no advertised upload IIRC, most of the time it's 224 kbit. Lots of downtime over weekends too, though that's been getting better. Better than dialup, but still nothing like the 250KB people are getting through DSL everywhere but here...
Hmm... I loved the original Tecmo's Deception. Nothing like it. Just so original and so creepy... only downside is the graphics. Terrible graphics, even for a PS1 game. All it's sequels are 3rd person. Obligatory FFVII. The original Turok: Dinosaur hunter. It had decent graphics in it's day, and doe...
Well, I can't do a backplate switch, because unfortunately it's a strange case design...even if I put the existing backplate on a new card it won't fit the case itself. After some research, it does look my existing Rage128 is the most reasonable video card out for the NLX case design, without forkin...
