Re: Stupid and terrible software.

There are a lot of amazingly bad devs out there. I've encountered quite a few over the years.

Re: Speakers hum when PC is off/standby

You could still try my passive adapter idea too; I bet that would get rid of most of the remaining hum. It's all low-voltage, so you're not going to damage anything even if you screw it up and miswire it.

Looks like the coating is slightly blistered to me? A clearer pic would help.

I see the picture. And yeah, it looks like the board has been subjected to some pretty serious heat.

Re: Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

I thought alcohol was only an issue for HUD housing if it was abused? Or is there a "zero tolerance" policy in effect at some facilities? Well in addition to housing those with mental illnesses, it is also a treatment center for those with alcohol and drug problems. So hence the rules. Ah...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

A former co-worker who recently departed to take a job in another state discovered Monday of last week that the guy who hired him had abruptly quit. They're telling him that his job is safe, but he's understandably a little nervous. He hasn't actually sold his house and moved yet (has been working r...

Re: Basting meat with molasses in slow cooker?

It'll be like brown sugar, but more intense. Seems like it would work to me, but I'd me more inclined to use it on pork (which tends to work better with sweet sauces IMO). Careful not to overdo it.

Re: So who here is actually mining?

That's true, the energy consumption of bitcoin is not inherently associated with all blockchain derivatives. That said, I still think that blockchain systems add complexity and that in media it's being portrayed as a technological cure all which it really isn't. It's also convenient for media to li...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Funnily I made a post on fb the other day which parallels the recent turn in this thread, criticizing the wastefulness of bitcoin (energy consumption / pollution) and calling out the media for perpetuating buzzword bingo around blockchain and bitcoin. Naturally the response I got back was "kee...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Where's that power coming from? Predominantly coal, estimates Digiconomist, although it's hard to tell as commercial-quantity Bitcoin mining is a fairly secretive game. That's too general to be helpful. The power is coming from wherever power comes from in a specific place. In China, that's mostly ...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

So the difference between idle and mining with CPU and GPU is 90 W. Proportionally, that's a lot, but in absolute numbers, that seems fairly negligible, no? Assuming you are paying HydroOttawa residential rates , your average price of electricity over a 24-hour period is CD$0.09/kW-h. Do the same m...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Very surprised you're not seeing a substantial increase in power usage when the miner is running. I just checked after coming home, and something was indeed screwy with my numbers. ;-) Here's what I just measured: Idle: 50 W Mining with CPU: 88 W Mining with GPU: 101 W Mining with both: 139 W So th...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Cryptonight (XMR) can be mined with CPU or GPU and is profitable... Ryzen is pretty good at it as is most AMD cards especially VEGAs. With a Ryzen 5 1600 and an RX 460, I get about a euro and a half a day. What's most surprising to me is that mining doesn't seem to make much of a difference in how ...

What event(s) do people see that will bring crypto crashing to the ground and why? Even if you're bullish, it's always good to keep sight of the potential pitfalls. I think crypto will stick around, and eventually become a useful part of the financial system. Bitcoin's specific implementation seems...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

The price volatility is frankly these coins biggest feature right now. Its what is driving interest. This will become a problem if it continues forever but this idea that Bitcoin or Litecoin need to be immediately put to use for day to day transactions is weak. I suppose depending on the nature of the hearing loss, fidelity of your headphones/speakers may be less important. Do you know if it is across the board, or particular frequency bands that you have difficulty hearing?
