I travel a lot for work and yeah it's crazy what gets flagged and what doesn't. I bought some stuff for kids in Hong Kong in August with my check card...no issues. Then I buy some random thing at Best Buy last month.. FLAGGED. :o  "Some random thing from [insert retail chain]" can b...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

turns out I am hosed so hard my anus is bruising. My water heater is in a location that is no longer legal for it to be in. Since I'm replacing it, I'll have to relocate it. Usually I'd say the hell with it and do it anyway but we're moving in May or June and putting the house for sale. So it has t...

Here are the recipes I went with this time around: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/46822/indian-chicken-curry-ii/ https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/curried-eggplant-109738 http://allrecipes.com/recipe/72349/indian-style-basmati-rice/ I guess the rice was technically not a curry on its own, ...

Re: Speakers hum when PC is off/standby

I also get this on my Corsair SP2500s, but I thought it was normal too. I just live with it *shrugs* I suppose it's "normal" in the sense that it's pretty common. Using well-shielded cables and a couple of 5 cent resistors would greatly reduce it though; so it's really a symptom of cost-c...

TFW code uses asserts and exception handlers as part of the normal control flow... and logs the exceptions. hahaha an app I use fairly frequently does this. There are two logs - one with all exceptions and one with just "important" exceptions. The file with all exceptions is full o...

Yup. If you are straight-up using Google for your searches then what's the point of not using Chrome (..most of the time)? Well, other than the abysmal memory handling. At least memory was cheap when I put my last build together. 32GB FTW! For those rare times that you need a "sta...

Re: Can i use 2133mhz with 8700K or should i buy 2666mhz?

Any kind of overclocking is not guaranteed to work and/or may require additional tweaking, even if done via XMP profile. Even with a kit with better reviews, there is a slight chance you won't be able to hit 3000; running at 3000 means you are running the memory controller on the CPU out of spec, wh...

G.SKILL is not my first choice of brand, but yes they should work. (As noted above, I prefer Crucial and Kingston.)

Re: Can i use 2133mhz with 8700K or should i buy 2666mhz?

XMP is essentially factory overclocking. While it should work, it doesn't always work. There is some risk that you will not be stable using the XMP profile, though 3000 is a pretty mild overclock so odds are good that it will work.

Can i buy first 1080 ti aorus without new rams. And start using 8700K , with my 2133mhz rams and 1080 ti aorus. After month i just buy faster ram . Or i will be have too much performance decrease because of 2133mhz? That will end up costing you more than if you just bought faster RAM to start with....

Re: Can i use 2133mhz with 8700K or should i buy 2666mhz?

2666MHz is the fastest speed Intel is willing to certify as compatible (i.e., all 8700K should be able to run the RAM at that speed). Slower RAM should work just fine as long as it is DDR4 (best bet is something on Asus' list of modules they've tested for compatibility), but you'll lose some perform...

Re: Firefox Hacked with Rogue Plugin... by its own developers

I switched to Chrome several years ago and haven't looked back. Yeah, there are privacy concerns; but Google knows pretty much everything anyway. I keep FF around too, but rarely use it. On my laptop, Chrome is configured to use an encrypted SOCKS proxy by default. So I use Firefox to deal with WiFi...

I remember way back in the day there were some installers that got confused once HDDs got bigger than 4GB. The free space calculation would blow up and no matter how much you had it would think you didn't have enough.

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Bitcoin's big issues these days aren't related to security; they are transaction rate, per-transaction cost, and net energy consumption. Security of the overall ecosystem is a concern too, but not in the top 3.

You could still try my passive adapter idea too; I bet that would get rid of most of the remaining hum. It's all low-voltage, so you're not going to damage anything even if you screw it up and miswire it.
